And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of 3 Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; "Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphæus, and Thad4 dæus; Simon the 'Cananæan, and Judas Is5 cariot, who also betrayed him. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.

Now when John heard in the prison the 2 works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples, and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or 3 look we for another? And Jesus answered and 4 said unto them, Go your way and tell John the things which ye do hear and see: the blind 5 receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead 1Or, the gospel are raised up, and the poor have 'good tidings preached to them. And blessed is he, whoso- 6 ever shall find none occasion of stumbling in me. And as these went their way, Jesus began to 7 say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye 8 out for to see? a man clothed in soft raiment?
