CONCERNING THE FOLLOWING FORMS OF PRAYER.

Of the following Forms of Prayer for the several days of the week, those for SUNDAY MORNING and EVENING have been compiled with a special view to the holy character of the LORD's Day, and its publick religious offices.

Those for MONDAY MORNING and EVENING are taken with selection, but otherwise with little change, from the Church's daily "Order of Morning and Evening Prayer ;" and follow that order in the succession of the parts, which have been thought best adapted to the present purpose.

Those for TUESDAY MORNING and EVENING are modelled upon those for MONDAY; with a selection and arrangement of parts, bearing a general likeness to the former in substance, but varying in their expression.

For the MORNINGS of WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY the Litany has been adopted, with the omission, for convenience' sake, of one of its divisions in the former case, and of another in the latter. For the EVENINGS of those days the plan laid down for TUESDAYS has been followed.

The same plan has been generally followed for the MORNINGS of THURSDAY and SATURDAY; but it has been less punctually observed for the EVENINGS of those days, occasion having been then

taken to put up prayers for various Christian graces, and to commemorate more particularly the dangers and uncertainty of our condition, and our dependance on God for defence and preservation.

The sentences in the Italick character, which occur in the course of the several forms with this mark¶before them, are designed as a guide to the Master or other Reader, and to the Family, after the manner of the Rubricks in our Common Prayer Book.

The sentences in Italicks, which occur without the ¶, are intended merely as an intimation of the principal subject of the ensuing Prayer.

CONCERNING THE "FIRST COLLECT.”

The "First Collect," or "Collect of the Day," is that which is appointed for the SUNDAY, and serves for the six following days, unless when another HOLYDAY occurs in which case the Collect of the Holyday is to be substituted.

The following Holydays are moveable, that is, they fall on different days, according to the time of Easter:
