heaven, through the same

Christ our Lord.

WHIT SUNDAY.

Jesus

MOST gracious God, who, as at this time, didst pour out thy Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other disciples of our blessed Lord; grant us, we beseech thee, the instruction, guidance, and consolation of the same Spirit; that having our hearts directed into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ, we may evermore rejoice in the blessed hope of everlasting life, through the merits of thy beloved Son our only Mediator and Redeemer.

TRINITY SUNDAY.

HOLY, holy, holy, Lord of Hosts, give us grace, we humbly pray thee,

in the steadfastness of an unshaken faith, evermore to worship the Trinity of Persons, in the Unity of the undivided Godhead, to the comfort of our souls, and the glory of thy name, who livest and reignest ever one God, world without end.

IN CASE OF SICKNESS.

LOOK with mercy, we pray thee, O Lord, on that member of our family, on whom thou hast laid thy afflicting hand. If it be thy good pleasure, restore [him] to health and strength; and fill our hearts with gratitude, and our lips with thy praises. But if it be thy will that it should be otherwise with [him],

prepare [him] for whatever thou mayest appoint, and grant us all an entire resignation to thy will, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But, as we have reason to apprehend that the time of [his] dissolution is at hand, we earnestly beseech thee to prepare [him] for that solemn event. Grant [him] true repentance,

a steadfast faith in thy Son Jesus Christ, and the sanctifying and supporting grace of thy Holy Spirit. May [his] last moments be calm and peaceful; and when heart and flesh shall fail, be thou, O Lord, the strength of [his] heart; and, after death, be thou [his] portion for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

ON RECOVERY.

WE thank thee, O Lord, for thy gracious goodness to [him] whom thou hast raised from sickness; and we pray that [his] spared life may be devoted to thy service, and that we may all be unfeignedly thankful to thee, through Jesus Christ our

ON THE DEATH OF A RELATIVE OR FRIEND.

O LORD, our lives are in thy hand. Thou prolongest or cuttest them short according to thy sovereign will; and none can change what thou hast purposed and appointed. Give us grace, we beseech thee, to bear with Christian patience and resignation the bereavement with which thou hast seen fit to visit us. May we be enabled to say, in sincerity of heart, The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Impress it deeply upon our minds that we ourselves are strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Remembering how short our time is, may we
