We pray for the healthful Spirit of God's Grace to be poured down upon all, who profefs Chrifta and embrace Chriftianity with Sincerity. The terms wherein we pray may feem ftrange, in re gard we present our Prayers to the Almighty and everlasting God, who only worketh great Marvels; but this expreffion hath a peculiar reference to Gods fending down of his holy Spirit upon the Apoftles, whereby they were enabled to fpeak in all Languages the wonderful works of God, A, 2. 11. and to confirm that Doctrine by Miracles, which they taught the World.

The Prayer of St. Chryfoftom, who lived about the Fourth Century, is grounded upon Mat. 18. V, 19. 20. and may be met with Word for Word in his Liturgy.

We begin and end the Morning Service with the Apoftle; as we begin the Exhortation in an Apoftolical Stile. fo we conclude the Prayers with an Apoftolical Prayer; and conclude moft of our Prayers and Collects with this claufe, Through fefus Christ our Lord, because there is no coming to God but by Chrift; what we ask (as we ought) in his Name, God will give us for his fake. He is our Jacobs Ladder, by whom our Prayers afcend to God, and Gods bleffings defcends to us; all good things come from God the Father, through Jefus Christ our Lord.

Hofoever will be faved, before all things it is neceffary that he hold the Catholick Faith, Heb 11. 6.

Jude ver. 3. Heb. 10. 23.

Which Faith, except every one do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he Thall perish everlastingly, Ephef. 4. 5. Fude

ver. 20. Acts 15° 9. John 3. 18. Mark 16.

And the Catholick Faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity, 1 John 5. 7. Rev. 4. 8.. Matt 28. 19. Rom. 11. 36.

Neither confounding the perfons: nor dividing the fubftance.

For there is one perfon of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Ghoft.

But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is all one: the Glory equal, the Majefty co-eternal:

Such as the Father is, fuch is the Son and fuch is the Holy Ghoft, Matt. 28. 19: 1 John. 5. 7. Heb. 1. 3. John 10. 30. Philip.

2. 6.

The Father uncreate, the Son uncreate, and the Holy Ghost uncreate, Gen. 1. 2. 3. The Father incomprehenfible, the Son incomprehenfible, and the Holy Ghost incomprehenfible, 1 Tim. 6. 16.

I

The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Ghost eternal, Deut. 33. 27. Pfal. 90. 2.

And yet they are not three eternals, but one eternal.

As alfo there are not three incompre

henfibles,

henfibles, nor three uncreated: but one uncreated, and one incomprehenfible.

So likewife the Father is Almighty, the Son Almighty, and the Holy Ghost Almighty.

And yet they are not three Almighties but one Almighty.

So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God.

And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.

So likewife the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Ghoft Lord.

And yet not three Lords, but one Lord, 1 John 5.7. Rev. 8. 1. 1 Cor. 8. 5, 6.

For like as we are compelled by the Chriftian verity, to acknowledge every person by himself to be God and Lord.

So are we forbidden by the Catholick Religion, to fay, there be three Gods, or three Lords, Rev. 4. 8. Heb. 1. 3. Rom. 11.36. I John 5. 7.

The Father is made of none: neither created nor begotten..

The Son is of the Father alone: not made, nor created, but begotten, John I. 14. 18.

The Holy Ghoft is of the Father, and of the Son: neither made, nor created,

ΠΟΥ

nor begotten, but proceeding, John 14. 26. John 15. 26. ̄

So there is one Father, not three Fa thers: one Son, not three Sons: one Holy Ghost, not three Holy Ghofts, Eph. 4. 6. John 3. 16. Ephef. 4. 4.

And in this Trinity none is afore, or after other none is greater, or lefs then another;

But the whole three Perfons are coeternal together, and co-equal, John to 30. Phil. 2. 6. 1 John 5. 7.

So that in all things, as is aforefaid: the Unity in Trinity, and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshiped, Ron. II. and 36. 1 John 2. 22, 23. Rev. 4. 8. Isa. 6. 3.' He therefore, that will be faved: muft thus think of the Trinity.

Furthermore, it is neceflary to everlafting falvation that he alfo believe rightly the Incarnation of our Lord Jefus Chrift, 1 John 4.2, 3.

For the right Faith is, that we believe and confefs that our Lord Jefus Chrift, the Son of God, is God, and Man, I Tim. 2. 5. John 1. 14, 1.Tim. 3. 16. Phil. 2.6,7.

God of the fubftance of the Father, begotten before the worlds: and Man of the fubftance of his Mother, born in the world.
