OF EUCLID (THE PARTS USUALLY READ IN THE UNIVERSITIES) FROM THE TEXT OF DR. ROBERT SIMSON. WITH GEOMETRICAL EXERCISES. BY THE RIGHT REV. JOHN WILLIAM COLENSO, D.D. LORD BISHOP OF NATAL. JmV 35973 NEW EDITION, THOROUGHLY REVISED, WITH THE ADDITION OF SOLVED EXAMPLES OF LONDON: LONGMANS, GREEN, AND CO. ADVERTISEMENT, THIS EDITION Of Euclid has been printed, with some slight verbal emendations, from the text of Dr. Simson, except that, in 5, 18, I have substituted a known shorter demonstration for the long and cumbrous direct proof. As this Proposition is one of those often omitted, there seemed less reason for retaining this latter. I have throughout attended carefully to the punctuation, and, I hope, have considerably improved it. It will be found that the different steps of the reasoning are distinctly separated by means of a colon and a capital. For the rest of the Text of Euclid and additional Problems and Theorems, reference may be made to Potts' Edition of Euclid, where also is given much additional matter, of use to the Tutor and Private Student.
