And thy healing shall spring forth speedily;
And thy righteousness shall go before thee;
The glory of the Lord shall be thy rearward.
Then shalt thou call, and the Lord will answer;
Thou shalt cry, and the Lord shall say, Here
I am.

ISAIAH LIX

Jeremiah xxii. Zechariah vii, viii

Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save;

Neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
But your iniquities have separated between you
and your God;

And your sins have hid his face from you.
Return unto me, saith the Lord,

And I will return unto you.

Execute true judgment,

And shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, The stranger, nor the poor;

And let none of you imagine evil against his brother.

Speak ye every man the truth with his neighbour;

And execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates.

Thy fathers, did they not do justice and righteousness?

Then it was well with them.

They judged the cause of the poor and the needy;

Is not this to know me? saith the Lord.

ISAIAH XI, LXV

Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former things shall not be remembered, nor come to mind.

But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create;

For, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people;

And there shall be heard in her no more the voice of weeping and crying.

There shall be no more thence an infant of days, Nor an old man that hath not filled his days; For the child shall die an hundred years old, And he that falleth short of an hundred years shall not be found.

And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; And they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

They shall not build, and another inhabit;
They shall not plant, and another eat;

For as the days of a tree shall be the days of my people,

And my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

They shall not labour in vain,

Nor bring forth for calamity;

For they are the blessed sons of the Lord,

Yea, and their children with them.

And it shall come to pass that, before they call,

I will answer;

And while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard shall lie down with the kid;
And the calf and the young lion and the fatling

together;

And a little child shall lead them.

And the cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of

the asp,

And the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain;

For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord,

As the waters cover the sea.

THE BOOK OF JEREMIAH

JEREMIAH I

Now the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee I knew thee, and before thou camest forth into the world I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever I shall send thee shalt thou go, and whatsoever I shall command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid; for I am with thee, saith the Lord. Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth: see, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see the bough of an almond tree trembling in the wind. Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen; for even so will I cause all nations to tremble at thy word. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee. Be not dismayed at them; for, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and brazen walls, against the whole

land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee. Arise therefore, and go: for I have put my words in thy mouth, and have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand.

JEREMIAH II, III

Thus saith the Lord:

I remember concerning thee the kindness of thy youth,

The love of thine espousals;

How thou wentest after me in the wilderness,
In a land that was not sown.

Israel was holiness unto the Lord,
The first-fruits of his increase.

What unrighteousness then have your fathers found in me,

That ye are gone far from me?

The priests say not, Where is the Lord?
And they that handle the law know not me:
But they walk all after things that do not profit.
Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the
Lord,

And with your children's children will I plead.
For my people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken me, the fountain of living
waters,

And hewed them out cisterns,

Broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing
and bitter,

That thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God,
And that my fear is not in thee.
