IV.

Plenteous grace with thee is found,
Grace to pardon all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within;
Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of thee:
Spring thou up within my heart,
Rise to all eternity.

REAT God, what host of angels stand, In shining ranks at thy right hand, Array'd in robes of dazzling light, With pinions stretch'd for distant flight!

II.

Immortal fires! seraphic flames!

Who can recount their various names?
In strength and beauty they excel,
For near the throne of GOD they dwell.

III.

How eagerly they wish to know,
The duties he would have them do!
What joy their active spirits feel,
To execute their Sovereign's will!

IV.

Hither, at his command they fly,
To guard the beds on which we lie;
To shield our persons, night and day;
And scatter all our fears away.

V.

(Aghast the hostile Syrian band
Around the helpless prophet stand,
While mighty Gabriel downward flies,
And with his chariots fill the skies.

VI.

Herod attempts, but all in vain,
To bind a Peter with his chain:
At one soft word an Angel speaks,
The massy chain asunder breaks.)

VII.

Send, O my GOD, some angel down,
(Tho' to a mortal eye unknown)
To guide and guard my doubtful way
Up to the realms of endless day.

HYMN CIV. C. M.

Walking in darkness, and trusting in God.

1.

EAR, gracious GoD, my humble

HEAR,

moan,

To thee I breathe my sighs,

When will the mournful night be gone?
And when my joys arise?

II.

My GoD-O could I make the claim-
My father and my friend-
And call thee mine, by every name,
On which thy saints depend!

III.

By every name of power, and love,
I would thy grace intreat:

Nor should my humble hopes remove,
Nor leave thy sacred seat.

IV.

Yet though my soul in darkness mourns,
Thy word is all my stay;
Here I would rest till night returns,
Thy presence makes my day.

V.

Speak, LORD, and bid celestial peace
Relieve my aching heart;
O smile, and bid my sorrows cease,
And all the gloom depart.

VI.

Then shall my drooping spirit rise,
And bless thy healing rays,

And change these deep complaining sighs
For songs of sacred praise.
