neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities; for as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; to deliver their soul from death.

"God will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men-the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all. And he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. The Spirit and the bride say—'Come.' And let him that heareth say' Come.' And let him that is athirst-Come; 10 for him that cometh he will in no wise cast out. 11Jesus came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance; for they that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 12 Be not afraid, only believe; 13 for the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanseth you from all sin."

Chapter Seventeenth.

THE SINNER DYING.

The vanity of human life.

He cometh forth

1"MAN that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. like a flower and is cut down; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. Man dieth, and wasteth away; yea, he giveth up the ghost, and where is he? All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust. 3 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the word of the Lord endureth for ever.

"Man is like to vanity; his days are as a shadow that passeth away. "His days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. "Man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets. The dust shall return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return unto God who gave

it.

""What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death. As the

cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. 10 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep."

"It is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment. And we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 3 God will render to every man according to his deeds. Unto them who do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness,-indignation and wrath,-tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil. But glory, honour and peace, to every man that worketh good. For there is no respect of persons with God.

"Thinkest thou this, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath.

See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that

spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. For he is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent. Hath he said and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

12

"Prepare to meet thy God,- for the time is short; and there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. 10 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out. 11 For our God is a consuming fire; and except ye repent, ye shall perish.-13 What meanest thou, O sleeper? 14Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. 15 It is high time to awake out of sleep. 16 Arise, call upon thy God."

Prayer at the eleventh hour.

"Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. 2I am gone like the shadow when it declineth; I am tossed up and down. My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. "Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies

and thy loving-kindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O Lord. If my transgressions and my sins be upon me, and I pine away in them, how should I then live? Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved. Remember how short my time is,8 cast me not off for ever. Arise for my help, and redeem me for thy mercies' sake. Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. 10 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin,-"what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 12 Thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.—13 God be merciful to me a sinner.

14" And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee. Deliver me from all my transgressions. 15 All my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee. I am feeble and sore broken; 16 but have mercy upon me, O Lord; 17 and let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his."
