V. RESPONSE TO THE COMMANDMENTS. When the Commandments are read by the Minister as in the Services on pp. 11-14, the following Response may be repeated by the people silently, or be read, or chanted, at the end of each Commandment; or, the others being omitted, that which follows the 10th Commandment, may alone be used. Response after Commandments I-IX: LORD, have mercy upon me: and incline my heart to keep this law. Response after Commandment X: LORD, have mercy upon me: and write all these thy laws in my heart, I beseech Thee. When sung, one of the following Chants may be used: After Commandments I-IX. II. LORD, have mercy up on me: and in-cline my heart to After Commandment X. keep this law. LORD, have mercy up-on me: and write all these thy laws in my heart, I beseech Thee. AND VI. THE BLESSINGS. MATTHEW V. ND seeing the multitudes, He went up into a moun tain and when He had sat down, his disciples came unto Him. And He opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they that do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled. • Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of GOD. Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when they shall revile yon, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Create in me a clean heart, O | God : And renew a right | spirit with in me. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of GOD. Behold, how good and how pleasant it | is: For brethren to dwell together in unity. Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The salvation of the righteous is of the | LORD; Blessed are ye, when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. The angel of the LORD en campeth Around them that fear Him : and deliver·eth | them. Rejoice and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.
