which the world cannot give: that both our hearts may be set to obey thy commandments, and also that, by Thee, we being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness, through thy great mercy, O JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

LMIGHTY GOD, who hast given us grace at this time, with one accord, to make our common supplications unto Thee, and hast promised that when two or three are gathered together in thy name Thou wilt grant their requests: Fulfill now, O LORD, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

¶ Prayers at Night.

VISI

VISIT, O LORD, we beseech Thee, this habitation (or, this congregation of thy servants) and all who are near and dear to us, and drive far from us all the snares of the enemy. Let thy holy angels surround us who keep us in peace, and let thy blessing be always upon us. Amen.

SAVE us, O LORD, while we wake, and keep us while we sleep, that our souls may continually watch for Thee, and that we may rest in thy peace forever and ever. Amen.

THE grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST be with us all ever

more.

Amen.

END OF THE EVENING PRAYER.

PRAYERS AND THANKSGIVINGS.

TO BE USED AT THE CLOSE OF MORNING OR EVENING PRAYER, AS OCCASION MAY REQUIRE.

TA Prayer of General Intercession for all Estates and Conditions of Men.

[This prayer may properly be used in the Office before the Communion, when the Litany is not said at that time.]

0

LORD, our heavenly Father, we pray Thee for thy holy Church throughout all the world; that Thou wilt give peace to thy city Jerusalem and prosperity in her palaces; that Thou wilt keep her safe and unmoved by any storms and tempests, and so founded on the rock of a true and living faith that the gates of hell may never prevail against her.

Amen.

AND for all thy Ministers, we pray thee, O LORD, Thou true Shepherd of our souls, that Thou wouldst give them spiritual wisdom and endue them with heavenly grace, that they may truly set forth thy living Word and rightly administer the things of their sacred office. Amen.

AND for all Christian Rulers and States, we pray Thee, O LORD of the whole earth; that their councils may be directed in thy wisdom and their government exercised in thy fear; that the dealings of the nations may be in peace, and that, passing our time in quietness and concord, we may be given to works of mutual love and well-doing, to the advancement of thy kingdom on earth and to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

WE pray Thee, O LORD, for our absent brethren, for all who travel by land or by sea, for the sick and the dying, for all who are needy and distressed, that Thou wilt be their refuge and a universal helper and defender to them all. Amen.

WE pray Thee for those who hate and persecute us that Thou wilt forgive them and turn their hearts; and for all who are without thy Holy Jerusalem, wandering in error, that Thou wouldst convert them and bring them in also to thy heavenly fold. Amen.

WE pray for all the youth of the Church, that Thou wilt perfect them in the knowledge and love of Thee their only GOD and Saviour; for all those in grievous temptations, tossed and tormented by their adversary the devil, that Thou wouldst cleanse and deliver them from all evil infestations and tumults, and grant them thy peace. Amen.

AND for all thy servants, O LORD, who confess and repent them of their sins, we pray, beseeching Thee to look favorably upon them, and upon this thy flock here gathered in thy Name: to receive our penitences, accept our prayers, pardon our offences, sanctify us by thy truth, and finally to raise us up unto the life everlasting. Amen.

AND we bless thy holy Name, O LORD, for all thy faithful ones gone hence in thy love and fear; imploring thy grace that we may so endure and overcome the trials and conflicts that beset us in this life, that at the last we may be partakers with them of thy heavenly kingdom. And unto Thee, O most Holy and Adorable LORD, be all glory, honor, praise, and thanksgiving forever and ever. Amen.

TA General Thanksgiving and Intercession.

O LORD JESUS CHRIST, who from everlasting to everlasting art the LORD GOD, Maker of all things, the Fountain of life, and Source of all blessing: Accept, we pray Thee, the thanksgiving, adoration, and praise which we offer unto Thee for thy constant goodness toward us, and for thy mercies which are over all thy works. Amen.

T For Redemption.

WE give Thee thanks, O LORD our Redeemer, that when Thou didst take upon Thee to deliver man, Thou didst assume our fallen nature, and bearing our sorrows and enduring our temptations, didst overcome the powers of darkness, despoiling death of its sting, and the grave of its victory; and that ascending on

high, Thou reignest in thy Divine Humanity, forever Emmanuel, GOD with us.

Amen.

For the Church.

WE give Thee thanks, O LORD, our Divine Comforter and Sanctifier, for all the regenerating influence of thy Holy Spirit, for the establishment of thy Church, for the Ministry of thy Word and Sacraments, and for all the dispensations of thy providence, whereby we are called to repentance, obedience, and eternal life. Let thy Word be known throughout the world, thy salvation to all people, that the earth may be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea, and that all nations may look unto Thee and be saved, knowing that Thou alone art GOD, and that from Thee only cometh salvation. Amen.

For the Civil Government.

WE give Thee thanks, O LORD, our Father Everlasting and Prince of Peace, who, in thy perfect wisdom and love dost sustain and govern all things in heaven and on earth; beseeching Thee that all earthly government may be established and maintained in righteousness and truth; that all rulers and magistrates may acknowledge thy sovereignty, seek to know and to do thy will, and exercise their office in thy fear and with a faithful regard to the public good; that the people may render willing obedience to due authority; that law and order, justice and equity may everywhere prevail, and peace and concord be established in the world. Amen.

For the Divine Mercy toward All.

LOOK down with pity and compassion, O LORD, upon all who are afflicted; comfort those who are in danger, necessity, and tribulation; defend and provide for the fatherless and widows and all who are desolate and oppressed. Give them patience under their trials, and graciously overrule all outward calamity and disorder to thy glory and to the spiritual and eternal good of thy children. Have mercy, O LORD, upon all men. Grant that the hearts of the rebellious may see the things which belong to their peace before they be hid from their eyes. Let thy truth illumine their minds, thy heavenly love warm and stir their hearts; and let all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee, and let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. Amen.
