True, I can't deferve to fhare
In a favor fo divinė;

But fince fin firft fix'd me there,

Who has greater claims than mine?
And to this my woeful plea,
Witness thou Gethfemane.

Sins against a holy GOD;
Sins against his righteous laws;
Sins against his love, his blood;
Sins against his name, and caufe;
Sins immense as in the fea!
Hide me, O Gethsemane.

Here's my claim, and here alone,
None a SAVIOR more can need:
Deeds of righteoufnefs I've none:
No, not one good work to plead ;

[ocr errors]

Not a glimpse of hope for me,
Only in Gethsemane.

SAVIOR, all the stone remove
From my rocky, flinty heart;
Thaw it with the beams of love:
Pierce it with a blood-dipt dart:
Wound the heart that wounded Thee,
Melt it in Gethsemane.

Father, Son, and Holy Ghoft,
One Almighty, GoD of love,
Prais'd by all the heav'nly host,
In thy fhining courts above,
We, poor finners, gracious Three,
Blefs thee for Gethfemane.

X. The Wonders of Redemption. C. M. EYOND the glitt'ring ftarry globes, Beyond etherial hills;

There, in the boundless realms of light,
Our great Redeemer dwells.
Legions of angels round his throne,
In countless armies fhine,
With glowing joy, and golden harps,
To offer fongs divine.

Hail! glorious prince of peace, they cry,
Whofe unexampled love;

Mov'd thee to quit these glorious realms,
And royalty above.

Whilft he did condefcend on earth,
To fuffer rude disdain:
They caft their honors at his feet,
And waited in his train.

Thro' all his travels here below,
They did his fteps attend:

Oft gaz'd, and wonder'd, where at laft,
This scene of love would end.

They faw his heart transfix'd with wounds,
And view'd the crimson gore;
They faw him break the bars of death,
Which none e'er broke before.

They brought his chariot from above,
To bear him to his throne;

Clap'd their triumphant wings, and cry'd,
"The glorious work is done."

XI. The Redeemer.

P. M.

IGHTY GOD, while angels bless thee,

M May an infant lifp thy name;

LORD of men as well as angels,
Thou art every creature's theme.
Hallelujah, &c. &c. Amen.

LORD of ev'ry land and nation,
Antient of eternal days:

Sounded through the wide creation,
Be thy just and lawful praife.
Hallelujah.

For the grandeur of thy nature,
Grand beyond a feraph's thought;
For created works of power,

Works with fkill and kindness wrought.
Hallelujah.

For thy providence that governs,
Through thine empire's wide domain,
Wings an angel, guides a fparrow;
Bleffed be thy gentle reign.
Hallelujah.
