The punishments of the past year were 1.5 per cent. of the number in the school. The government of the school is mild. Caning is resorted to in extreme cases, but as there were only nine instances last year (twothirds of the whole number of punishments) the discipline may certainly be said to be good. HEALTH. The average of deaths for several years has been two in a thousand. As in all large establishments for boys, ringworm is found the most troublesome disease. There were last year but seven cases of chilblains, which speaks well for the system of paving the play-ground, and thereby avoiding damp feet. The hospital arrangements of the school are all that could be desired. CHAPTER IX. EXAMINATION PAPERS SET FOR THE PUPIL TEACHERS.* GREENWICH HOSPITAL SCHOOL. PUPIL TEACHERS-FIRST AND SECOND YEARS.
