CHAP. III.

1 We are not rashly or arrogantly to reprove others; 5 but rather to bridle the tongue, a little member, but a powerful instrument of much good, and great harm: 13 they who be truly wise be mild, and peaceable, without envying, and strife.

How should a man be just with God? say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? ECCLES. vii. 20: There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. 1 JOHN, i. 8: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man. MARK, vii. 15, 20, 23: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
