Poor Daniel Button for the fame offence deprived of his wits.

One Samuel an Irishman, for his forward attempt to pun, was ftunted in his ftature, and hath been visited all his life after with bulls and blunders.

George Simmons, shoemaker at Turnftile in Holborn, was fo given to this cuftom, and did it with so much fuccefs, that his neighbours gave out he was a wit. Which report coming among his creditors, no body would trust him; fo that he is now a bankrupt, and his family in a miferable condition,

Divers eminent clergymen of the univerfity of Cambridge, for having propagated this vice, became great drunkards and Tories.

A wonderful PROPHECY taken from the mouth of the fpirit of a perfon, who was barbarously flain by the MoHOCKS:

Proving alfo, that the faid Mohocks and Hawcubites are the Gog and Magog mentioned in the Revelations; and therefore that this vain and tranfitory world will fhortly be brought to its final diffolution.

70E to London! Woe to Weftminifter! Woe to Southwark! and woe to the inhabitants thereof! I am loath to fay, Woe to the old and new churches, and thofe that are not built!

thofe that are built,

But woe to the gates, the streets, and the houses! Woe to the men, the women, and the children! for the MOHOCKS and HAWCUBITES are already come; the time draweth near, and the end approacheth!

Not to mention the near resemblance betwixt the names of Mоносk and GoG, HAWCUBITE and MAGOG (though I think there is a great deal even in that), I shall go on to proceed in my more folid arguments, proving to you not only the things that are, but alfo the things that

are not.

The things that are, are the MоHOCKS and HAWCUBITES; the things that are not, are Goc and MAcoc; and yet both the things that are, and the things that are not, are one and the fame thing.

How this matter is, or when it is to be fulfilled, neither you nor I know, but I only.

Satan

Satan came alfo among them; and where Satan is, there are GoG and MAGOG alfo.

They have the mark of the beaft in their foreheads, and the beaft himself is in their hearts, their teeth are fharp like, the teeth of lions, their tails are fiery like the tails of fcorpions, and their hair is as the hair of women. Here the Spirit paused a while and thus again proceeded.

Now liften to what is to come,

Those that are in fhall abide in, and those that are out fhall abide out.--Yet thofe that are in fhall be as those that are out, and thofe that are out fhall be as those that are in.

The lions of this world are dead, and the princes of this world are dead alfo, and the next world draweth nigh.

That antient Whig, the Antichrift of St John, fhall lead the van like a young dragon, but he thall be cut piece-meal, and difpoffeffed.

The dragon upon Bow-church, and the grasshopper upon the Royal-exchange, fhall meet together upon Stocks market, and fhake hands like brethren.

Shake therefore your beads, O ye people! my time is fhort, and yours is not long; lengthen therefore your repentance, and thorten your iniquities.

Lo! the comet appeareth in the fouth! yea, it ap peareth exceedingly. Ah poor deluded Chriftians! Ah blind brethren! think not that this baleful dog-star only haketh his tail at you in waggery; no, it shaketh it as a rod. It is not a sporting tail, but a fiery tail, even as the tail of a harlot; yea, fuch a tail as may reach, and be told, to all pofterity.

I am the porter that was barbaroufly flain in Fleetftreet by the MOнOCKS and HAWCUBITES Was I flain, when they laid violently hands upon me.

They put their hook into my mouth, they divided my noftrils afunder, they fent me, as they thought, to my

Tong home; but now I am returned again to foretell their deftruction.

The time is at hand, when the free-thinkers of GreatBritain fhall be converted to Judaifm: and the Sultan fhall receive the forefkins of Toland and Collins* ina box of gold.

Yet two days, a day, and half a day, yea, upon the twelfth hour of the fourth day, thofe emblems of GoG and MAGOG, at the Guild-hall, fhall fall to the ground, · and be broken asunder. With them thali perifh the MoHOCKS and HAWCUBITES, and the whole world fhall perish with them.

Here the Spirit disappeared, and immediately there upon held his peace.

From the hen rooft, August the 4th.

WO days ago we were put in a dreadful confter. nation by the advance of a kite, which threatened every minute to fall upon us; he made feveral motiens as if he defigned to attick our left wing, which covered our infantry. We were alarmed at his approach, and upon a general multer of all our forces, the kitchen-maid came to our relief; but we were foon convinced, that she had betrayed us, and was in the intereft of the kite aforefaid; for the twifted off two of our companions necks, and ftript them naked: five of us were allo clapped in a close prifon, in order to be fold for flaves the next. market day.

From the garden, Augufi the 3d.

The bears have done much mifchief of late in thefe parts, to fuch a degree, that not a turnip or carrot can lie fafe in their beds. Yesterday feveral of them were taken, and fentenced to have a wooden engine put about their necks, to have their noses bored, and rings thurft through them, as a mark of infamy for fuch practices.

From the great pond, Auguft the ft.

Yesterday a large fail of ducks paffed by here, after a Small refiftance from two little boys, who flung ftones at them; they landed near the barn-door, where they fo raged with very good fuccefs: while they were upon this enterprize, an old turkey-cock attacked a maid in a red
