the path of His sufferings - this, and this only, as He himself has told us, is to build our house, the house of our life, of our faith, of our happiness, upon a rock; a rock which will grow firmer and stronger the more we build upon it, and the more we have to bear. The rains may descend, and the floods 'may come, and the winds may blow and may beat upon that house;' but the house will not fall, ' for it 'will have been founded upon the rock.' * * Matt. vii. 25. After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. NO St. John, in the last chapter of his Gospel, So records the last recollections of his Lord's appearances after the Resurrection. On this, the only Easter Day that in all probability we shall any of us pass on the shores of the Sea of Tiberias, it seems the best use we can make of the occasion, to draw forth all the truth (and it is of various kinds) that this chapter yields in connection with this, the greatest day of the Christian year, with this, the holiest ordinance of the Christian Church. 1.
