thou, Lord, wilt be extreme to mark what is done amiss, O Lord, who may abide it (h)? Mine iniquities are gone over my head, and are like a sore burden, too heavy for me to bear (i). If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me; if I say I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse (j). Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity for ever (k). Have mercy upon me, according to thy loving kindness, according to the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness, and cleanse me from my sin (7). Turn thou me, and I shall be turned (m). Have respect unto the prayer of thy servant, O

Lord my God (n), for there is forgiveness with thee (o); hold not thy peace at my tears (p). Thou art nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and savest such as be of a contrite spirit (q): it is of thy mercy that I am not consumed, because thy compassions fail not (r). O let my soul live, and it shall praise thee(s).

Now unto Him who is able to keep us from falling, and to present us faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy(t); and unto Him who has washed us from our sins in his own blood, be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen (u).

PRAYER FOR ONE DEPRIVED OF AN OPPORTUNITY OF ATTENDING ON THE PUBLIC OFFICES OF RELIGION.

Blessed are they that dwell in thy house. Psalm lxxxiv. 4.

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of Hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord, my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God (a): even as the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God: when shall I come and appear before thee (b)? My soul thirsteth for thee,

my

flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; to see thy power and thy glory, so as I have

seen thee in the sanctuary(c). But I am cast out of thy sight (d); the day of the Lord is darkness and not light, even very dark, and no brightness in it(e). Thou hast sent a famine, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord (f): for man doth not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (g).

Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; when his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness (h)! O that I had wings like a dove! then would I flee. away and be at rest(i): then would I

go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy (j): I would take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord: I would pay my vows unto the Lord in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the Lord's house(k).

Now, therefore, O my God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and cause thy face to shine upon me in thy sanctuary. O my God, incline thine ear and hear, open thine eyes, and behold my desolation(). Shew me some token for good (m): lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon me(n); strengthen the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees (o): open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may go into them,
