sorrow of mind; and my life hangeth in doubt before me. In the morning I say, "Would God it were even!" and at even, "Would God it were morning (e)!" O Lord, thou knowest: remember and visit me (f). Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved (g): for with thee is the fountain of life; in thy light shall we see light (h). Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort; and let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live(i): nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done(j). It is not for me to know what the Father hath put in his own power (k); but this I know, that all

things work together for good to them that love him (1). Therefore I will rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him (m), for it is his hand that hath wrought this (n). Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight (o).

save(a)! O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not, and in the night season, and am not silent (b). Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that my prayer should not pass through (c). O that I knew where I might find thee! that I might come even to thy seat! I would order my cause before thee, and fill my mouth with arguments (d). I would say unto thee, "Do not condemn me: shew me wherefore thou contendest with me(e). Hast thou forgotten to be gracious? Is thy mercy clean gone for ever (ƒ)? Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble(g)?" Lord, bow down thine

ear and hear: open, Lord, thine eyes, and see(h) if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, wherewith thou hast afflicted me in thy fierce anger(i). My pain is perpetual, and my wound incurable(): I am made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me (k). O Lord, though mine iniquities testify against me (l), let not my punishment be greater than I can bear (m). O Lord, my strength and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction (n), be not a terror to me: thou art my hope in the day of evil (o). O be gracious unto me, for I have waited for thee (p): thou art

The Lord shall deliver thee in six troubles; yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword. Job v. 19, 20.
