HUS have I laid open a Light fhining in a dark place, and not only done Justice to an Adversary, but endeavour'd to make him Friendly to my Country. Where he comes armed with good and lawful Weapons, I prefs him in for Publick fervice; and as far as he rightly uses the force of his Wit, I cite him as an Evidence for the Truth. But as oft as he makes any Excurfions, wide of the way to that Blefjed Place which he defcribes; I let my Reader fee bow effectually the main Supporters of their Church's Infallibility can confute their own Pretenfions.

Yet

Yet must I own a farther Defign which here I have, To find my own happy Account in the benefit of that gloricus Representation, whereof I give the Recommendation: That while I take pains to Allure and Win the Hearts of others, I may not abide still cold, or but Lukewarm my felf. When confcious I am, That no ones Concern in this matter can be greater than my own, To look out,and Pry into the End of our Faith, and fo to Fight the good Fight, as to Lay hold on Eternal Life.

For what a little while longer is it,my Soul, that I shall be an Inhabitant of this Earth, where fhortly my Place will never know me any more? And should not the main of my Care then be for the amazing Future, what fhall become of me elsewhere For ever, as foon as I am out of all here? Thus may Death come and Difpoffefs me, within a very few Days or Hours: And then, After Death the Judgment. So quickly may I know my Sentence, and find my Eternal State fix'd and Determin'd. But be it fo; yet chear up, my Soul, Tho' thou must pass that gloomy Vale, appointed for the Thoroughfare of all men Living. For does not that Grace of God which brings Salvation, (appearing to me, and conferr'd upon me,) give me boldness to Hope, (thro' bis Goodness who first gave me my Being, and bas, ever fince, most kindly chofen my Inheritance,) That even then, I shall be under no doleful

doleful Deftitution; But fet up Higher, and furnish'd abundantly Better than ever? To bave a certain Dwelling place, and an Everlasting Habitation: Even that House Eternal in the Heavens, full of all Good things, which will more Out-vye the ftatelieft Palaces of Nobles, and brightest Courts of Princes, than any of thofe can furpass the pooreft Cabins of Beggars: (A House) in that wonderful City, which is Greater and Wider than Mortal Eye can Take the Profpect; built of richer Materials than any our Gold or Jewels; and Peopled with Inhabitants yet more Precious than all the Buildings: And this City, in a Kingdom of immenfe Extent, and all over a Paradife of unconceivable Pleasure: Where every one of the Subjects are Kings, that live at perfect Eafe, and in Fulness of Joy, moft bighly Favoured, and dearly Loved by the Infinite Founder, God Bleffed for

ever.

But what do I thus Amusing my felf, and humouring my Genius with the Schemes of fuch noble Fabricks, boundless Territories, and fplendid Entertainments? When that of the Apoftle (pavepan) 1. Joh. 3. 2. ftrikes all our curious Inquifitions dead. For it does not yet Appear what we fhall be. No : Every Discovery here comes fo exceeding Short, as to leave the biggest part of all still to the dim Ken of Faith. Tea, even that which is call'd The Revelation of Jefus Chrift, does
