We are not able of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves: Oh be Thou our sufficiency in all the trials and temptations that we may meet with here; and so refresh our spirits with the comforts of Thy grace, that we may go on our way rejoicing, and walk in Thy faith and fear and love unto our lives end.

Give us peace in our consciences, O Lord, through the atoning blood of Christ; support and strengthen us with Thy free Spirit; make our repentance sincere, and forgive us all our sins.

We commit ourselves to thy care and keeping this day. Watch over our paths, compass us about with Thy favour, and finally bring us, and all ours, into Thy Kingdom in heaven, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thursday Evening.

Let my prayer be set forth in

Thy sight as the incense; and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice. Psl. cxli. 2.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thess. v. 18.

If two of you shall agree on earth, as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matt. xviii. 19.

O GOD, whose nature and property is ever to have mercy and to forgive, we pray Thee look down from the throne of Thy Majesty on high, and behold us thine unworthy creatures, who desire humbly to confess the sins and negligencies of the past day, and to seek Thy pardon and protection, through the merits of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

We have erred and strayed from Thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Thy Holy Laws. O make us to feel that godly sorrow which worketh repentance not to be repented of; and enable us, with more steadfast purpose, to follow that which is good, and to cleave unto Thy blessed will in all things.

To this end, open thou our eyes, that we may see the wondrous things of Thy law. Send to us the Holy Ghost to comfort us; to convince us of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and to bring all things to our remembrance, whatsoever Thou wouldest have done.

As members of a Christian family, may we love each other with a pure heart fervently; and being united in the bonds of a common faith, may we grow up into him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ.

And now, O Lord, we commend ourselves, and all for whom we ought to pray, to Thy gracious care this night. Refresh our bodies with quiet rest, and if it please Thee to raise us in the morning, may we be strengthened with might in the inner man, faithfully to discharge the duties of our calling, and by patient continuance in well-doing to seek for glory and honor and immortality, through the riches of Thy goodness in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Friday Morning.

The hand of our God is upon all them for good, that seek him, but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him. Ezra. viii. 22.

We know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Rom. viii. 26.

O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come. Psl. lxv. 2.

O ALMIGHTY God and heavenly Father, who in giving thy Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, hast opened to us the path of life, we beseech thee also with him freely to give us all things, and to keep us in the way everlasting.

Lead us to the fountain of living waters; feed us with food convenient for us; make us to hunger and thirst after righteousness, to do justice, to love mercy, and enable us to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit, and to perfect holiness in the fear of the Lord.

O let thy Spirit dwell within us, and make us thine in heart and affections, and bend our will to Thy most holy will in all things. Whilst we labour honestly for the meat which perisheth, may we be laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven; that so, through thy mercies in Christ Jesus, we, the poor of this world, may become rich in faith, and heirs of that blessed kingdom which Thou hast promised to them that love Thee.

We now commit ourselves to Thy merciful protection, earnestly entreating Thee to bless unto us the events which may befall us this day. Keep us in safety from the enemy of our souls, guide us by the counsels, and after that receive us with glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
