"Morning," or day-break.

CHRIST IS DELIVERED BOUND TO PILATE.

ST. MATT. xxvii. 1, 2; ST. MARK XV. 1; ST. LUKE xxiii. 1; ST. JOHN xviii. 28-32.

WHEN the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death: and when they had bound Him, they led Him away, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the governor unto the hall of judgment; and it was early (day break.)-Pilate then went out unto them and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? They answered, If He were not a malefactor we would not have delivered Him up unto thee. Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye Him

and judge Him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death.

That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which He spake, signifying what death He should die.

Prayer.

ALMIGHTY God, we beseech Thee graciously to behold this Thy family, for which (or this Thy servant for whom) our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the Cross; who now liveth and reigneth with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. AMEN.

JESUS' ARRAIGNMENT BEFORE PILATE.

HIS KINGDOM.

HE IS SCOURGED, CROWNED WITH THORNS, AND BEATEN.

ST. JOHN xviii. 33; xix. 5; ST. MATT. xxvii. 11; ST. MARK XV. 2; ST. LUKE xxiii. 2, 3.

PILATE entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto Him, Art Thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered,

My kingdom is not of this world. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness of the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth My voice.

Pilate went out unto the Jews and saith unto them, I find in Him no fault at all.

Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe; and Pilate saith unto them,

BEHOLD THE MAN.

Prayer.

O God, the King of glory, who hast exalted Thine only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph unto Thy kingdom in heaven; Grant that we may also in heart and mind thither ascend, and may now so walk in the light of Thy truth, that we may at length attain to the light of everlasting life; and make us to know and feel that there is no other name under heaven whereby we may be saved, but only the Name of the one Mediator between God and man, the Man Christ Jesus our Lord. AMEN.

Six o'clock.

"Day."

JESUS IS ACCUSED BEFORE PILATE;

SENT TO HEROD;

HEROD MOCKETH HIM; PILATE, ADMONISHED OF HIS WIFE, WASHETH HIS HANDS.

ST. LUKE xxiii. 3-21; ST. JOHN Xviii. 6-15; ST. MATT. xxvii. 12-25; ST. MARK XV. 3—14.

As soon as Pilate knew that He belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. And Herod with his men of war set Him at nought, and mocked Him, and arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and
