The book of the law found

forth out of Egypt, even unto this day. Hukiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read 16 Morcover Manasseh shed innocent blood it. very much, till he had filled Jerufalem from one end to another, beside his in wherewith he made Judah to fin, in doing that which was evil in the fight of the LORD.

17 Now the rest of the acts of Manaffeh, and all that ne did, and his fin that he finned, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

18 And Manaifeh flept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own houfe, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his fon reigned in his ftead.

19 Amon was twenty and two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerufalem. And his mother's name or Methullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

20 And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD, as his father Manafeh did. 21 And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and ferved the idols that his father ferved, and worthipped them:

22 And he forfook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD. 23 And the fervants of Amon confpired against him, and flew the king in his own houfe.

24 And the people of the land flew all them that had confpired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Joliah his fon king

in his ftead.

25 Now the reft of the acts of Amon which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

26 And he was buried in his fepulchre in the garden of Uzza: and Jofiah his fon reigned in his ftead.

CHAP. XXII.

1 Fofiab's good reign: 3 he taketh care for the repair of the temple. 8 Hilkiah findeth the book of the law, &c.

J

TOSIAH was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerufalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Bofcath.

2 And he did that which was right in the fight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not afide to the right hand or to the left.

And it came to pafs in the eighteenth year of king Jofiah, that the king fent Shaphan the fon of Azaliah, the fon of Methullam, the fcribe, to the houfe of the LORD, faying,

4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may fum the filver which is brought into the houfe of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:

5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the overfight of the houfe of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the boule of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the houfe.

6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and mafons, and to buy timber and hewn ftone to repair the house.

7 Howbeit, there was no reckoning made

with them of the money that was delivered Into their hand, becaufe they dealt faithfully. 8 And Hilkiah the high priest faid unto Shaphan the fcribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And

9 And Shaphan the feribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and faid, Thy fervants have gathered the money that was found in the houfe, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the houfe of the LORD.

10 And Shaphan the fcribe thewed the king, faying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 And it came to país, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the fon of Shaphan, and Achbor the fon of Michaiah, and Shaphan the fcribe, and Afahiah a servant of the king's, fay ing,

13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me. and for the people, and for all Judah, concern ing the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kind. led against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written con cerning us.

14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Afahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetefs, the wite of shallum the fon of Tikvah, the fon of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now the dwelt in Jerufalem in the college;) and they communed with her.

15 And the faid unto them, Thus faith the LORD God of Ifrael, Tell the man that fent you to me,

16 Thus faith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:

17 Because they have forfaken me, and have burnt inceafe unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath thall be kindled againft this place, and thall not be quenched.

18 But to the king of Judah, which fent you to enquire of the LORD, thus thall ye fay to him, Thus faith the LORD God of Ifrael, As touching the words which thou hart heard;

19 Becanfe thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thy felf before the LORD, when thou heardeft what Ifpake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a defolation, and a curfe, and hait rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I alfo have heard thee, faith the LORD.

20 Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes thall not fee all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

СНАР. ХХІІІ.

1 Jofiah causeth the book of the law to be read: 3 he reneweth the covenant of the Lord, 4 and delrayeth idolatry.

ANIS the king fent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerufalem.

2 And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all

3 And the king flood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his teftimonies and his statutes, with all their heart and all their foul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people ftood to the

covenant.

4 And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second or der, and the keepers of the door to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the veffels that were made tor Baal, and for the grove, and for all the hoft of heaven: and he burnt them without Jerufalem in the fields of Kid ron, and carried the athes of them unto Bethel.

5 And he put down the idolatrous priefts, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incenfe in the high places, in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerufalem; them alfo that burnt incenfe unto Baal, to the fun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.

6 And he brought out the grove from the houfe of the LORD, without Jerufalem, un to the brook Kidron, and burnt it at the brook Kidron, and itamped it fmall to powder, and caft the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.

7 And he brake down the houses of the fodomites, that were by the houfe of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove.

8 And he brought all the priests out of the aities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burnt incenfe, from Geba so Beer-theba, and brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

9 Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusa. Jem, but they did cat of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

10 And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man night make his fon or his daughter to pafs through the fire to Molech.

II And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the fun, at the entering in of the houfe of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain which was in the fuburbs, and burnt the chariots of the fun with fire.

12 And the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the aitars which Manaffeh had made in the two courts of the house the LORD, did the king beat down, and bike them down from thence, and caft the dut of them into the brook Kidron.

13 And the high places that were before rufalem, which were on the right hand of e mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Ifrael had builded for Afhtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemoth the abomination or the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the

children of Ammon, did the king defile. 14 And he brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men.

15 Moreover the altar that was at Beth-el, and the high place which Jeroboam the fon of Nebat, who made Ifrael to fin, had made, both that altar and the high place he orake down, and burat the high place, and ftamped it fmall to powder, and Burnt the grove.

16 And as Jofiah turned himself, he fpied the fepulchres that were there in the mount, and fent and took the bones out of the fepulchres, and burnt them upon the altar, and polluted it according to the word of the LORD, which the man of God proclaimed, who pro claimed these words.

17 Then he faid, What title is that that I fee? And the men of the city told him, It is the fepulchre of the man of God which came from Judah, and proclaimed thefe things that thou hait done against the altar of Beth el.

18 And he faid, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

19 And all the houfes alfo of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Ifrael had made to provoke the LORD to anger, Jofiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done, in Beth-ei.

20 And he flew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars, and burnt men's bones upon thèm, and returned to Jerufalem.

21 And the king commanded all the peo ple, faying, Keep the paffover unto the LORD your God, as it is written in the book of this covenant.

22 Surely there was not holden fuch a paffover from the days of the judges that judged Ifrael, nor in all the days of the kings of Ifrael, nor of the kings of Judah;

23 But in the eighteenth year of king Jofiah, wherein this paffover was holden to the LORD in Jerufalem.

24 Moreover the workers with familiar fpirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were fpied in the land of Judah and in Jerufalem, did Jofiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law, which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the houfe of the LORD.

25 And like unto him was there no king be fore him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his foul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Mofes; nei ther after him arofe there any like him.

26 Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, where. with his anger was kindled againft Judah, becaufe of all the provocations that Manaffeh had provoked him withal.

27 And the LORD faid, I will remove Judah alfo out of my fight, as I have removed Ifrael, and will caft off this city Jerufalem which I have chofen, and the houfe of which I faid, My name thall be there.

28 Now the rest of the acts of Jofiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

30 And his fervants earried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerufalem, and buried him in his own fepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the fon of Jonah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's ftead.

31 Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerufalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of jeremiah of Libnah.

32 And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD, according to all that his Cathers had done.

33 And Pharaoh-nechok put him in bands at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerufalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of filver, and a talent of gold.

34 And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the fon of Jofiah king in the room of Jofiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there.

35 And Jehoiakim gave the filver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the filver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh-nechoh.

36 Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in ferufalem. And his mother's name was Zebudak, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

37 And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done. CHAP. XXIV.

Jehoiakim procureth his own ruin. 10 7erufalem is taken. 17 Zedekiah's evil reign. IN his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Baby, lon came up, and Jehoiakim became his fervant three years: then he turned and rebelled against him.

2 And the LORD fent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and fent them againit Judah to destroy it according to the word of the LORD, which he (pake by his fervants the prophets.

case this upch Judah, to remove them out of his fight, for the fins of Manaffeh, according to all that he did;

4 And alfo for the innocent blood that he fhed: for he filled Jerufalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

6 So Jehoiakim flept with his fathers; and Jehoiachin his fon reigned in his ftead.

7 And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Fgypt unto the river Euphrates all that pertained to the king of Egypt.

Ferufalem besieged. 8 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerufalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehuinta, the daughter of kinathan of Jerufalem.

And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.

10 At that time the fervants of Nebuchad. nezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerufalem, and the city was befieged.

11 And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, and his fervants did be. fiege it.

12 And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mo ther, and his fervants, and his princes, and his officers and the king of abylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.

13 And he carried out thence all the treafures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's houfe, and cut in pieces all the veffels of gold which Solomon king of Ifrael had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had faid,

14 Aad he carried away all Jerufalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of va. lour, even ten thousand captives, and all the crattfmen and fmiths: none remained, fave the poorest fort of the people of the land.

15 And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his officers, and the mighty of the land, thofe carried he into captivity from Jerufalem to Babylon.

16 And all the men of might, even seven thousand, and craftsmen and fmiths a thou fand, all that were frong and apt for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

17 And the king of Babylon made Mat teniah his father's brother king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

18 Zedekiah was twenty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerufalem. And his mother's name quas Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

19 And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoi akim had done.

20 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pafs in Jerufalem and Judah until he had caft them out from his prefence, that Ze. dekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. CHA P. XXV.

Jerufalem is befieged. 4 Zedekiah taken, his fons flain, and his eyes put out. AND it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his hot, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about.

2 And the city was befieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.

3 And on the nirth day of the fourth month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land.

4 And the city was broken up, and all the men of war fied by night, by the way of the gate, between two walls, which is by the king's garden; (now the Chaldees were against the city round about;) and the king went the way toward the plain.

S And

Zedekiah's eyes put out.

II. KINGS. 5 And the army of the Chaldees purfued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho: and all his army were scattered from him.

6 So they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon him.

7 And they flew the fons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.

8 And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, (which is the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Baby. ion,) came Nebuzar-adan captain of the guard, a fervant of the king of Babylon, unto Jerufa.

lem.

9 And he burnt the houfe of the LORD, and the king's houfe, and all the houfes of Jerufalem, and every great man's houfe burnt he with fire.

10 And all the army of the Chaldees that were with the captain of the guard brake down the walls of Jerufalem round about.

11 Now the rest of the people that were left in the city, and the fugitives that fell away to the king of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, did Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carry away.

12 But the captain of the guard left of the poor of the land to be vinedreffers and hutband

16 The two pillars, one fea, and the bafes, which Solomon had made for the houfe of the LORD; the brafs of all thefe veffels was with out weight.

17 The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the chapiter upon it was brafs; and the height of the chapiter three cubits; and the wreathen work, and pome. granates upon the chapiter round about, all of brafs and like unto thefe had the fecond pillar with wreathen work.

18 And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the fecond prieft, and the three keepers of the

Gedaliah flain.

19 And out of the city he took an officer that was fet over the men of war, and five men of them that were in the king's prefence, which were found in the city, and the prin cipal fcribe of the hoft, which mustered the people of the land, and threeicore men of the people of the land that were found in the city:

20 And Nebuzar-adan captain of the guard took thefe, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Kiblah.

21 And the king of Babylon fmote them, and flew them at Riblah in the land of Ha math. So Judah was carried away out of their land.

22 And as for the people that remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the fon of Ahikam the fon of Shaphan ruler.

23 And when all the captains of the armies, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah go vernor, there came to Gedaliah to Mizpeh, even Ihmael the fon of Nethaniah, and Johanan the fon of Careah, and Seraiah the fon of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaaz aniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their

men.

24 And Gedaliah fware to them, and to their men, and faid unto them, Fear not to be the fervants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and ferve the king of Babylon; and it fhall be well with you.

25 But it came to pafs in the seventh month, that Ishmael the fon of Nethaniah, the fon of Elifhama, of the feed royal, came, and ten men with him, and fmote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.

26 And all the people, both fmall and great, and the captains of the armies, arofe, and came to Egypt: for they were afraid of the Chaldees.

27 And it came to pafs in the feven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the feven and twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, did lift up the head of Je. hoiachin king of Judah out of prifon;

28 And he spake kindly to him, and fet his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon;

20 And changed his prifon garments: and he did eat bread continually before him all the days of his life.

30 And his allowance was a continual al. lowance given him of the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life.
