Mofes ordered to mount Nebo.

DEUTERONOMY.

is no god ita me : i kill, and I make alive; wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and lay, I live for ever.

41 If I whet my glittering fword, and nine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

42 I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my fword fhall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the flain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the eremy.

43 Rejoice, Ŏ ye nations, with his people; for he will avenge the blood of his fervants, and will render vengeance to his adverfaries, and will be merciful unto his land, ana to his people.

44 And Mofes came and fpake all the words of this fong in the ears of the people, he, and Hothea the fon of Nun.

45 And Mofes made an end of fpeaking all thefe words to all Ifrael.

46 And he faid unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I teftity among you this day; which ye shall command your chil dren to obferve,to do all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a vain thing for you; beCaufe it is your life: and through this thing ye thall prolong your days in the land whither ye go over Jordan to poffefs it.

48 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes that felt fame day, faying,

49 Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over againft jericho, and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Ifrael for a poffeffion;

50 And die in the mount whither thou goeft up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gatheret unto his people:

51 Because ye trefpaffed againft me among the children of Ifrael at the waters of Meribah-kadefh, in the wildernefs of Zin; because ye fanclified me not in the midft of the children of Ifrael.

52 Yet thou shalt fee the land before thee; But thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Ifrael.

The majesty of God. 6 The bleffings of the twelve tribes. 26 The excellency of Ifrael.

The bleings of the tribes. fuficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

8 And of Levi he faid, Let thy Thummin and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didit prove at Maifah, and with whom thou lidt ftrive at the waters of Meribah;

9 Who faid unto his father and to his mother, I have not feen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have obferved thy word, and kept thy covenant.

10 They thall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Ifrael thy law they thalf put incenfe before thee, and whole burnt-facritice upon thine altar.

i Blefs, LORD, his fubftance, and accept the work of his hands: fmite through the loins of them that rife against him, and of them that hate him, that they rife not again.

12¶ And or Benjamin he faid, 'The beloved of the LORD thall dwell in fate.y by him; and the LORD thall cover him all the day long, and he thall dwell between his thoulders.

13 And of Jofeph he faid, Bleifed of the LORD be his land, for the previous things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucherh beneath,

14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the fun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,

15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lafting hills,

16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof; and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush; let the bleng come upon the head of Jofeph, and upon the top of the head of him that was feparated from his brethren.

17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he thall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thoufends of Manaffeh.

18¶ And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and Iffachar, in thy

tents.

19 They hall call the people unto the mountain; there they thall offer facrifices of righteoufnefs: for they thall fuck of the a bundance of the feas, and of treasures hid in the fand.

3 Yea, he loved the people: all his faints are in thy hand: and they fat down at thy feet; every one thall receive of thy words.

4 Mofes commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.

5 And he was king in Jethurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Ifrael were gathered together.

5 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let

And this is the bleffing of Judah: and

22 And of Dan he faid, Dan is a lion's whelp: he thall leap from Bathan.

23 And of Naphtali he faid, O Naphtali, fatisfied with favour, and full with the bleffing of the LORD; poffefs thou the weft and the fouth.

24 And of Ather he faid, Let Ather be bleffed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.

25 Thy thoes shall be iron and brafs; and as thy days, fo fall thy strength be.

Chap. xxxiv. 27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he fhall thrust out the enemy from before thee, and shall fay, Destroy them.

28 Ifrael then thall dwell in fafety alone: the fountain of Jacob fall be upon a land of corn and wine; alfo his heavens thall drop down dew.

29 Happy art thou, O Ifrael: who is like unto thee, O people faved by the LORD, the fhield of thy help, and who is the fword of thy excellency! and thine enemies thall be found liars unto thee, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

ND Mofes went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over againit Jericho and the LORD thewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,

2 And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manalleh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost fea,

3 And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm-trees, unto Zoar. 4 And the LORD faid unto him, This is the land which I fware unto Abraham, unto Ifaac, and unto Jacob, faying, I will give

So Mofes the fervant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

6 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his fepulchre unto this day. 7 And Mofes was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

8 And the children of Ifrael wept for Mofes in the plains of Moab thirty days: fo the days of weeping and mourning for Mofes were ended.

9¶ And Jothua the fon of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Mofes had laid his hands upon him and the chilaren of Ifrael hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commandei Mofes

2 Mofes my fervant is dead; now therefore arife, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Ifrael.

3 Every place that the fole of your foot hall tread upon, that I have given unto you, as I faid unto Mofes.

4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphra tes, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great fea toward the going down of the fun, fhall be your coaft.

5 There fhall not any man be able to ftand before thee all the days of thy life. As I was with Mofes, fo I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

6 Be strong and of a good courage; for unto this people halt thou divide for an inheritance the land which I fware unto their tathers to give them.

Only be thou ftrong, and very courageous, that thou mayet obferve to do according to all the law which Mofes my fervant commande i thee: turn not from it ro the right hand or to the left, that thou mayeft profper whitherfoever thou goeft.

8 This book of the law fhall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayeft obferve to

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, faying,

11 Pats through the hoft, and command the people, faying, Prepare your victuals ; for within three days ye thall pals over this Jor. dan, to go in to poffets the land which the LORD your God giveth you to poffefs it.

12 And to the Reubeniles, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manaffleh, fpake Joshua, faying,

13 Remember the word which Mofes the fervant of the LORD commanded you, faying, The LORD your God hath given you reit, and hath given you this land.

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, fhall remain in the land which Mofes gave you on this fide Jordan; but ye thall pais before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them,

15 Until the LORD have given your bre thren reft, as he hath given you, and they alfo have poifeiled the land which the LORD your God giveth them; then ye shall return unto the land of your polemion, and enjoy it, which Mofes the LORD's fervant gave you on this fide Jordan, toward the fun-riting.

1 Rabab receiveth and concealeth the two Spies fent from shittim: 8 the covenant between her and them: 25 their return.

AND Joshua the fon of Nun fent out of Shittim two men, to fpy iecretly, fay. ing, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's houfe named Rahab, and lodged there.

2 And it was told the king of Jericho, faying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Hrael, to fearch out the country.

3 And the king of Jericho fent unto Rahab, faying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine houfe: for they be come to fearch out all the country.

4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and faid thus, There came men unto me, but I wift not whence they were.

5 And it came to país about the time of fhutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out, whither the men went I wot not: purfue after them quickly; for ye thall overtake them.

6 But the had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the ftaiks of flax which the had laid in order upon the roof.

7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan, unto the tords, and as foon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

8 And before they were laid down, the came up unto them upon the roof;

9 And the faid unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red fea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites that were on the other fide Jordan, Sinon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

And as foon as we had heard thefe things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

12 Now therefore I pray you, fwear unto me by the LORD, fince I have fhewed you kindaefs, that ye will alfo fhew kindness unto my father's houfe; and give me a true token:

13 And that ye will fave alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my Lifters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

14 And the men answered her, Our life for your's if ye utter not this our businefs. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with

thee.

wall.
16 And the faid unto them, Get ye to the
mountain, let the puríuers meet you; and
hide yourtelves there three days, until the
puriuers be returned and afterward may ye
go your way.

17 And the men faid unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hait made us fwear.

18 Behoid, when we come into the land,

thou that bind this line of farie. thread in the window which thou didit let us down by and thou thalt bring thy father, and thy mo ther, and thy brethren, and all thy tather's household, home unto thee.

19 And it thall be, that whofoever shall go out of the doors or thy noufe into the treet, his bloo ifbalt be upon his head, and we will be guilclefs: and whofoever thall be with thee in the houfe, his blood fall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hart

made us to wear.

21 And the faid, According unto your words, fo be it. And the fent them away, and they departed: and the bound the scarlet line in the window.

22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the purfuers were returned. And the pur fuers fought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

23 So the two men returned, and defcended from the mountain, and paifed over, and came to Joshua the fon of Nun, and told him all things that befell them.

24 And they faid unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land: for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

2 And it came to pafs after three days, that the officers went through the hott;

3 And they commanded the people, faying, When ye fee the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye thall remove from your place, and go after it.

4 Yet there thall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by meafure; come not near unto it; that ye may know the way by which ye muft go; for ye have not paffed this way heretofore.

s And Jothua faid unto the people, Sanctity yourselves: for to-morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

6 Ani Jothua fpake unto the priests, faying Take up the ark of the covenant, and pafs over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the peo ple.

7 And the LORD faid unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnity thee in the fight of all Ifrael, that they may know that as I was with Mofes, foI will be with thee. 8-And thou thait command the prefts that

yAna jothua faid unto the children of Ifrael, Come mither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.

10 And jothua fard, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the H. vites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgathites, and the Amorites, and the jebuiites.

11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth paffeth over before you into Jordan.

4 Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had prepared of the children of Ifrael, out of every tribe a man;

5 And Jothua faid unto them, Pafs over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midit of Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a tone upon his thoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Ifrael;

3 And Joshua made him tharp knives, and
circumcifed the children of Ifrael at the hill
of the foretkins.

4 And this is the caufe why Joshua did circumcife: All the people that came out of Egypt that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after, they came out of Egypt.

5 Now all the people that came out were circumcifed; but all the people that were born in the wildernefs by the way, as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcifed.

6 For the children of Ifrael walked forty years in the wildernefs, till all the people, that were men of war, which came cut of Egypt were confumed, becaufe they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD fware, that he would not thew them the land which the LORD fware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

7 And their children, whom he raifed up in their ftead, them Joshua circumcifed: for they were uncircumcifed, because they had not circumcifed them by the way.

8 And it came to pafs, when they had done circumcifing all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp till they were whole. 9 And the LORD faid unto Joshua, This day bave I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you: wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

TC And the children of Ifrael encamped in Gilgal, and kept the paffover on the fourteenth day of the month at even, in the plains of Jericho.
