People. Unto us there is but one God, to whom be glory for ever.
Minifler. Thou alone art from everlasting, without beginning of days and end of years; thou livest and reignest for ever and ever.
People. Wc magnify thee, the high and lofty One who inbabiteft eternity:
Minister. Thou art a spiritual and incorruptible Being, who dwellest in light inaccessible, and full of glory; whom no mortal eye hath seen or can see.
People. We would worship thee, who art a spirit, in Spirit and in truth.
Minister. Infinite art thou, O God! thou dwellest not in temples made with hands: the universe is thy temple; thou art present at all times, in every part of thy dominion.
People. In thee we live, and move, and have our being
Minister. Thou art perfect in wisdom, wonderful in council, and excellent in all thy works.
People. To the only wise God be honour and glory for ever.
Minister. Holy art thou, O God! thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity; thy countenance regardeth the upright.
Minister. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains: justice and judgment are the everlasting foundations of thy throne.
Then let the first Leflon be read, taken out of the Old Testament; the Minister is afterwards to proceed as follows: the People standing.
Minifter. us now offer up unto God our fincere and humble thanksgivings, for his great goodness to us and to all mankind.
O give thanks unto the Lord, ye his people! give thanks at the remembrance of his goodness.
Let us meditate upon his mercies with delight ; and let the words of our mouths and the actions of our lives shew forth his praise.
People. We will give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good, and bis mercy enduretb for ever.
The General Thanksgiving. We thank thee, O Father! Lord of heaven and earth, for the innumerable favours thou hast bestowed upon us. We acknowledge, with all gratitude and joy, the gift of life: thy almighty voice hath called us into being, and thy hand hath placed us in this part of thy glorious works. We thank thee for the wise and useful frame of our bodies, and for the nobler powers of our minds; by which we are enabled to contemplate the beauty of thy
works, and the wonderful order of thy providence; and to attain to the knowledge and love of thee, the Creator of the world, and the Author of all good.
People. We praise thee, O Lord! for thy goodness, and for thy wonderful works to the children of
Minister. We thank thee, O ever bountiful and gracious God! for the continual preservation of our lives ; in thy hand is the life of every creature, and the breath of all mankind; our food and raiment are the daily gifts of thy bounty; the blessings of society and friendship are thy wise and benevolent appointment; and to thy fatherly goodness we are indebted for all our personal and relative enjoyments.
People. Bless the Lord, O our fouls! and all that is within us blefs bis holy name.
