And the king fpake and faid unto Daniel, Are thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Ju2 Belshazzar, whiles hetafted the wine, dah, whom the king my father brought commanded to bring the golden and fil-out of Jewry? ver veffels which his father Nebuchad- 14 I have even heard of thee, that the nezzar had taken out of the temple which fpirit of the gods is in thee, and that was in Jerufalem; that the king and his light and understanding, and excellent princes, his wives, and his concubines, wifdom is found in thee. night drink therein.

Then they brought the golden veffels that were taken out of the temple of the houfe of God which was at Jerusalem ; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of filver, of brafs, of iron, of wood, and of ftone.

15 And now the wife men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not thew the interpretation of the thing:

And the king spake, and said to the wife men of Babylon, Whofoever shall

17 Then Daniel anfwered and faid before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

18 O thou king, the moft high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:

692 The writing interpreted. DANIEL. Daniel caft into the lions' den.

19 And, for the majesty that he gave him, the prefidents and princes, because an exall people, nations, and languages, tiem-cellent fpirit was in him; and the king bled and feared before him whom he thought to fet him over the whole realm. would he flew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he fet up; and whom he would he put down. 20 But when lus heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was depofed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

:

21 And he was driven from the fons of men and his heart was made like the beafts, and his dwelling was with the wild affes they fed him with grafs like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomfoever he will.

And thou his fon, O Belshazzar, haft not humbled thine heart, though thou kneweft all this;

23 But haft lifted up thyself against the LORD of heaven; and they have brought the vellels of his houfe before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou haft praised the gods of filver, and gold, of brafs, iron, wood, and ftone, which fee not, nor hear, nor know and the God in whofe hand thy breath is and whole are all thy ways, haft thou not glorified:

:

4 Then the presidents and princesfought to find occafion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occafion nor fault; foralmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

5 Then faid thefe men, We shall not find any occation against this Daniel, except we find it againit him concerning the law of his God.

6 Then thefe prefidents and princes affembled together to the king, and faid thus unto him, King Darius, live forever.

7 All the prefidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counfellors, and the captains, have confultei together to establish a royal ftatute, and to make a firm decree, that whofoever hall atk a petition of any God or man for thirty days, fave of thee, O king, he thall be caft into the den of lions.

8 Now, O king, eftablish the decree, and fign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Perfians, which altereth not.

9 Wherefore king Darius figned the writing and the decree.

10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was figned, he went into his houfe; and his windows being open in 24 Then was the part of the hand fent his chamber toward Jerufalem, he kneelfrom him; and this writing was written. 29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with fcarlet, and pur a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he hould be the third ruler in the kingdom. 30 In that night was Belfhazzar the king of the Chaldeans flain.

31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about thicefcore and two years old.

11 Then these men affembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

12 Then they came near, and fpake before the king concerningthe king's decrec; Halt thou not figned a decree, that every man that shall ask a perition of any God cr man within thirty days, fave of thee, O king, shall be caft into the den of lions? The king antwered and faid, I he thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Perfians, which altereth not.

18 Then answered they and faid before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah regard. eth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou haft figned, but maketh his petition three times a day.

28 So this Daniel profpered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Perfian.

CHAP. VII.

↑ Daniel's vifion of the four beafts, of God's kingdom. 15 The interpretation thereof.

IN the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and vilions

8 I confidered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the firft horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

9 I beheld till the thrones were caft down, and the Ancient of Days did fit, whofe garment was white as foow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

:

10 A fiery ftreani iffued and came forth from before him thoufand thoufands miniftered unto him, and ten thoufand times ten thousand tood before him the judgment was fet, and the books were opened.

11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beaft was flain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

12 As concerning the rest of the beafts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and tune.

13 I faw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came withthe clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought him near before him.

14 And there was given him dominion and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations,

nations, and languages, fhould ferve him:
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which fhail not pafs away; and his king-
dom that which thall not be deftroyed.

15 Daniel was grieved in my fpirit in the midst of my body, and the vifions | of my head troubled me.

16 I came near unto one of them that food by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.

17 Thefe great beafts, which are four, are four kings, which thall arife out of the earth.

18 But the faints of the Most High hall take the kingdom, and poffefs the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.

19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beaft, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whofe teeth were of iron, and his nails of brafs; which devoured, brake in pieces, and ftamped the refidue with his feet;

20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came mp, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that ipake very great things, whofe look was more ftout than his fellows.

21 I beheld, and the fame horn made. war with the faints, and prevailed against them ;

22 Until the Ancient of Days came, and dgment was given to the faints of the Molt High and the time came that the faints poffeffed the kingdom.

:

23 Thus he faid, The fourth beaft fhall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which thall be diverse from all kingdoms, and thall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

The vifion of the ram and gost.
CHAP. VIII.

Daniel's vifion of the ram and be goat.
13 The two thousand three hundred
day's of facrifice.

IN the third year of the reign of king Belthazzar a vifion appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.

2 And I faw in a vifion; and it came to pafs when I faw, that I was at Shuthan In the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I faw in a vifion, and I was by the river of Ulai.

8 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and faw, and, behold, there flood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the rwe horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up laft.

I faw the ram pufhing weftward, and northward, and fouthward; so that no beaft might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

5 And as I was confidering, behold, an he goat came from the weft on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat bad a notable horn between his eyes.

6 And he came to the ram that had wo horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.

7 And I faw him come clofe unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and fmote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he caft him down to the ground, and itamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand. 24 And the ten horns out of this king- 8 Therefore the he goat waxed very dom are ten kings that thall arife and great and when he was ftrong, the great another hall life after them; and he mall horn was broken: and for it came up be diverfe from the firft, and he fhall fub-four notable ones toward the four winds due three kings. of heaven.

25 And he hall fpeak great words against the Molt High, and thall wear out the faints of the Molt High, and think to change times and laws and they fhall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

26 But the judgment fhall fit, and they fhall take away his dominion, to confume and to deftroy it unto the end.

9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the fouth, and toward the eat, and toward the pleafant land.

10 And it waxed great, even to the hoft of heaven and it caft down some of the hoft and of the stars to the ground, and itamped upon them.

11 Yea, he magnified himself even to 27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the prince of the hott, and by him the the greatness of the kingdom under the daily jacrifice was taken away, and the whole heaven, thall be given to the peo-place of his fanctuary was caft down. ple of the faints of the Moft High, whofe 12 And an hoft was given him against kingdom is an everlafting kingdom, and the daily facrifice by reafon of tranfgref ail dominion thail ferve and obey him. fion, and it caft down the truth to the 28 Hitherto is the end of the matter. ground; and it practifed, and profpered. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me but I kept the matter in my

13 Then I heard one faint fpeaking, and another faint faid unto that certain faint which fpake, How long ball be the vilion concerning the daily facrifice, and

the tranfgreffion of defolation, to give both the fanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

14 And he faid unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then thall the fanctuary be cleansed.

15 And it came to pafs, when I, even I Daniel had feen the vifion, and fought for the meaning, then, behold, there flood before me as the appearance of a man.

16 And heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and faid, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vifion.

17 So he came near where I ftood; and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he faid unto me, Understand, O fon of man; for at the time of the end ball be the vision.

18 Now as he was fpeaking with me, I was in a deep fleep on my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and fet me upright.

19 And he faid, Behold, I will make thee know what fhall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end ball be.

20 The ram which thou faweft having wo horns are the kings of Media and Perfia. 21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia; and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

2 In the firft year of his reign, I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish feventy years in the defolations of Jerufalem.

3 And I fet my face unto the Lord GoD, to feek by prayer and fupplications, with fafting, and fackcloth, and ashes.

4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O LORD, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments.

5 We have finned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

25 And through his policy alfo he fhall caufe craft to profper in his hand; and he hall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace hall deftroy many: he thall alfo ftand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore fhut thou up the vifion; for it ball be for many days.

27 And I Daniel fainted, and was fick certain days; afterward I rofe up, and did the king's bufinefs; and I was aftonished at the vision, but none understood it.
