This book seeks not so much to expound the message of the prophets against the background of their times and to fix their place in the history of Israel's religion, as to explore the phenomenon of prophecy as such, to analyze its fundamental presuppositions and the nature of prophetic inspiration; together with this, it seeks by comparative study to set forth the uniqueness of the prophetic faith.
