Arphaxad two Years after the Flood, and lived after five hundred Years.

Arphaxad begat Salah, Salah begat Eber, Eber begat Peleg, Peleg begat Reu, Reu begat Serug, Serug begat Nahor, Nahor begat TERAH.

26 And Terah lived seventy Years and begat ABRAM, Nahor and Haran, and Haran begat Lot.

29 And Abram and Nahor took them Wives: and the Name of Abram's Wife was Sarai.

30 But Sarai was barren; she had no Child.

31 And Terah took ABRAM, and Lot and Sarai, and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the Land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

32 And the Days of Terah were two hundred and five Years: and Terah died in Haran.

CHAP. XII.

1 Gon calleth Abram, and blesseth him with a Promise of CHRIST. 4 He departeth with Lot from Haran. 6 He journeyeth through Canaan, 7 which is promised him in a Vifion. 10 He is driven by a Famine into Egypt. II Fear maketh him feign his Wife to be his Sister. 14 Pharaoh having taken her from him, by Plagues is compelled to restore her.

OW the LORD
had faid unto A-
bram, Get thee
out of thy Coun-
trey, and from thy

Kindred, and from thy FA-
THER'S HOUSE into a Land
that I will SHEW thee.

2 And I will make of thee

a great Nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy Name great; and thou shalt be a Bleffing.

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee : and in thee shall all Families of the EARTH be BLESSED.

16 But now they DESIRE A BETTER Countrey, that is, an HEAVENLY: called their Gop: for he hath prepared for them a CITY.

4 So Abram departed, as him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five Years old when he departed out of Haran.

5 And Abram took Sarai his Wife, and Lot his Brother's Son, and all their Substance that they had gathered, and the Souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the Land of Canaan, and into the Land of Canaan they came.

6 f And Abram passed thro' the Land into the Place of Sichem, into the Plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the Land.

7 And the LORD APPEARED unto Abram, and faid, Unto thy SEED will I give this Land, and there builded he an Altar unto the Lord, who APPEARED unto him.

3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy COUNTREY, and from thy Kindred, and come into the Land which

I shall shew thee.

4 Then came he out of the Land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his Father was dead, he removed him into this Land wherein ye now dwell.

s And he gave him none INHERITANCE in it, no not so much as to set his Foot on: yet he PROMISED that he would give it him for a PosSESSION, and to his SEED after him,

8 And he removed from thence unto a Mountain on the East of Beth-el, and pitched his Tent, having Beth-el on the West, and Hai on the when as yet he had no CHILD. East: and there he builded an Altar unto the Lord, and called upon the Name of the LORD.

9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South. 10 And there was a Famine in the Land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the Famine was grievous in the Land.

And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his Wife, Behold, now I know that thou art a FAIR Woman to look upon.

12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall fee thee, that they shall say, This is his Wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.

13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my Sister: that it may be well with me for thy Sake; and my Soul shall live because

of thee.

14 And it came to pass, that when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the Woman, that she was

VERY FAIR.

15 The Princes also of Pharaoh faw her, and commended her before Pharaoh : and the Woman was taken into Pharaoh's House.

17 & And the LORD PLAGUED Pharaoh and his House with great Plagues, because of Sarai Abram's Wife.

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy Wife ?

19 Why faidst thou, She is my Sister? so I might have taken her to me to Wife: now therefore behold thy Wife, take her, and go thy Way.

20 And Pharaoh commanded his Men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his Wife, and all that he had.

CHAP. XIII,

1 Abram and Lot return out of Egypt. 7 By Disagreement they part afunder. 10 Lot goeth to Sodom. 14 God reneweth the Promise to Abram. 18 He removeth to Hebron, and there buildeth an Altar.

ND the LORD faid unto Abram after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine Eyes, and look from the Place where thou art, North-ward, and South-ward, and East-ward, and West-ward.

15 For all the Land which thou seest, to thee will I Give it, and to thy SEED for ever.

16 And I will make thy Seed as the Dust of the Earth: so that if a Man can NUMBER the Dust of the Earth, then shall thy Seed also be NUMBRED.

17 Arife, walk through the Land in the Length of it, and in the Breadth of it: for I will give it unto thee.

18 Then Abram removed his Tent, and came and dwelt in the Plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an Altar unto the Lord.

18 And MELCHISEDEK King of SALEM brought forth Bread and Wine and he was the PRIEST of the MOST HIGH GOD.

19 And he BLESSED him, and faid, Blefled be Abram of the MOST HIGH GOD, Poffeffor of Heaven and Earth:

h Heb. vii I For this MELCHISEDEK King of Salem, PRIEST of the MOST HIGH God, who met Abraham returning from the Slaughter of the Kings, and blessed him: tenth Part of all: first being by InTo whom alfo Abraham gave a terpretation KING OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and after that also, KING OF SALEM,

which is KING of PEACE;

3 Without Father, without Mother, without Descent, having neither BEGINNING Of Days, nor End of Life; but made like unto the Son of GOD, abideth a PRIEST continually.

4 Now consider how great this Man was, unto whom even the Patriarch Abraham gave the Tenth of the Spoils:

s And verily they that are of the Sons of Levi, who rece ve the Office

of the Priesthood, have a Command

ment to take Tithes of the People according to the Law, that is, of their Brethren, though they come out of the Loyns of Abraham:

6 But he whose DESCENT is not counted from them, received Tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the Promites.

21 And the King of Sodom faid unto Abram, Give me the Perfons, and take the Goods to thy felf.

22 And Abram faid to the King of Sodom, I have lift up mine Hand unto the LORD, the MOST HIGH GOD, the Poffeffor of Heaven and Earth,

23 That I will not take from a Thread even to a Sheelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, left thou shouldst say, I have made Abram rich:

24 Save only that which the young Men have eaten, and the Portion of the Men which went with me, Aner, Efhcol, and Mamre; let them take their Portion.

CHAP. XV.

I God encourageth Abram. 2 Abram complaineth for want of an Heir. 4 God promiseth him a Son, and a multiplying of bis Seed, 6 Abram is justified by Faith, 7 Canaan
