brimstone. The destruction of Antichrist therefore, of himself as well as of his feat, shall be in a terrible manner by fire. Daniel asserts the fame thing, (VII. 11.) 1 beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn /pake, I beheld even till the beafi was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning jlame. So likewise faith St. Paul, (2 Thes. I. 7, 8.) The Lord Jesus stall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: and more particularly (II. 8.) The Lord Jhall consume the wicked one, the man of lin, with the spirit of his mouth, and fiall destroy him with the brightness of his coming.
About the time of the fall of the Othman empire and of the Christian Antichrist, the Jews shall turn to the Lord, and be restored to their own land. Innumerable are the prophecies concerning the conversion and restoration of this people. Hear only what Hofea faith, who prophesied before the captivity of the ten tribes of Israel, (III. 4, 5.) The children of Israel s/jall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image or altar, and without an epkod, and without teraphim or divine manifestations: Afterward stall the children of Israel return, and seek
D d 3 4he the Lord their God, and David their king, and fiall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days. Hear also what Ezekiel faith, who prophesied during the captivity of the two tribes of Judah and Benjamin, (XXXVJI. 21, 25.) Thus faith the Lord God, Behold, I will take the chiU dren of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every fide, and bring them into their own land: And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unfa fa cob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt, and they Jl:all dwell therein, even .they and their children, and their childrens children for ever, and my servant David shall be their prince for ever. (XXXIX. 28, 29.) Then Jhall they know that I am the Lord their God, who caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen, but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there: Neither will I hide my face any more from them; for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, faith the Lord God. Ye cannot but remember what St. Paul faith upon the fame occasion, (Rom. XI. 25.) I would not, brethren, that ye sljould be ignorant of this my fiery, that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in, and so all Israel flail be saved. Now these and the like predictions, we suppose, will take effect,
and and this great revolution be accomplished, about the time of the fall of the Othman empire, and of the Christian Antichrist. Ezekiel's Gog and Magog (XXXVIII. XXXIX.) we believe to be the Turks or Othmans, and they jloall come up againjl the children of Israel in the latter days to oppose their resettlement in their own land, and they Jhallfall in some extraordinary manner upon the mountains of Israel, they and the people that is with them :so the house of Israelshall know that I am the Lord their God, from that day and forward. Daniel too (XI. 45. XII. 1.) predicts the fall of the king of the north upon the glorious holy mountain: And at that tuneJhall MichaelJland ups the great prince who Jlandeth for the children of' Israel. The restoration of the Jews and the fall of Antichrist mail also happen about the fame time. If the fxth vial (Rev. XVI. 12.) which is pour ed out upon the great river Euphrates, whose waters are dried up to prepare a pafage for' the kings of the eaft, is to be understood, as Mr. Mede and others think, ofthe return ofthe Jews j then the return of the Jews is one of the seven last plagues of Antichrist. But this notion is expressed more clearly in Daniel, as it more immediately concerned his people. (XI. 36.) He Jhall prosper till the indignation, that is God's indignation against the Jews, be accomplished: and D d 4 again
again afterwards (XII. 7.) When God Jhall have accompliJhed to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things Jhall be finijhed. In consequence and conformity to this doctrin a tradition hath prevailed (6) among the Jews, that the destruction of Rome and the redemption of Israel shall fall out about the same time.
When these great events shall come to pass, of which we collect from the prophecies this to be the proper order; the protestant witnesses shall be greatly exalted, and the 1260 years of their prophesying in sackcloth and of the tyranny of the beast shall end together; the conversion and restoration of the Jews succeed; then follows the ruin of the Othman empire, and then the total destruction of Rome and of Antichrist. When these great events, I fay, shall come to pass, then shall the kingdom os Christ commence, or the reign of the saints upon earth. So Daniel exprefly informs us, that the kingdom of Christ and the saints will be raised upon the ruins of the kingdom of Antichrist-, (VII. 26, 27.) But the judgment Jhall Jit, and they Jhall take away his dominion, to consume, and to d/Jiroy it unto the end: And the kingdom* and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom

So likewise St. John faith, that upon the final destruction of the beajl and thefalse prophet, (Rev. XX.) Satan is boundfor a thousand years; And I saw thrones, and they fat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beasl, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their soreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years: But the re/t of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. 'This is the first refurreblion. It is, I conceive, to these great events, the fall of Antichrist, the reestablishment of the Jews, and the beginning of the glorious millennium, that the three different dates in Daniel of 1260 years, i2()o years, and 1335 years are to be referred: and as Daniel faith, (XII. 12.) Blessedis he that wait et h and comet h to the 1335 years; so St. John faith, (XX. 6.) Blessed and holy is he that bath part in the first refurreblion. Blessed and happy indeed will be this period; and it is
