meek; he casteth the wicked down to the ground. 36 The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. 37 For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: 38 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. 39 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer. 40 This shall be written for the generation to come ; and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord. 41 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth ; 42 To hear the groaning of the prisoner, to loose those that are appointed to death; 43 To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem ; 44 When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord. 45 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our law-giver, the Lord is our king, he will save us.

PRAISE and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways

judgement: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase. 2 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low ; and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. 3 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. 4 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty. 5 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. 6 For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low. 7 And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled. 8 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgement, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness. 9 God is the judge; he putteth down one, and setteth up another. 10 A God of truth, and without iniquity; just and right is he. He is excellent in power, and judgement, and in plenty of justice. 11 The Lord, the Lord God, is merciful, and gracious, long

suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth: 12 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, and transgression, and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty. 13 The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit. the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. 14 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. 15 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burnt at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 16 Who can stand before his indignation P and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger ? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown, down by him. * 17 The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; 18 He knoweth them that trust in him; but darkness shall pursue his enemies. 19 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. 20 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people. 21 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and

shall be removed like a cottage;

and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall, and not rise again. 22 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. 23 For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 24 The just Lord will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgement to light, he faileth not. 25 He is the rock, his work is perfect; for all his ways are judgement: a God of truth, and without iniquity, just and right is he.

AH Lord God, behold thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched-out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: 2 Thou shewest loving-kindness unto thousands, and recompensest iniquity : the Great, the Mighty God, the Lord of hosts is his name, 3 Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings: 4 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an uprightman thou wilt shew thyself upright: : 5 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward. 6 For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks. z * 7 Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteOuSness. 8 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One we shall not die. 9 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he 10 O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgement; and O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. 11 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. 12 Righteous art thou, O Lord, and upright are thy judgements. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatestiniquity. 13 Thyrighteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who islike unto thee! 14 Justice and judgement are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. 15 I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

16 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy preSence. -

17 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down. *

18 Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulmess reacheth unto the clouds.

19 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgements are a great deep : O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.

BEHold; God is mighty, and despiseth not any : he is mighty in strength and wisdom. 2 He preserveth not the life of the wicked; but giveth right to the poor. 3 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted. 4 And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction: 5 Thenhesheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. 6 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. 7 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. 8 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. 9 Far be it from God that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty that he should commit iniquity. 10 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways. 11 Yea, surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgement. , 12 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil-doers: 13 They that hate him shall be clothed with shame, and the dwelling-place of the wicked shall come to nought. 14 He delivereth the poor in theiraffliction, and openeth their ears in oppression. 15 For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever. ‘s 16 The Lord shall endure for ever: he, hath prepared his , throne for judgement: 17 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall : minister judgement to the people in uprightness. 18.The wicked boasteth of his ..heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the Lord abhorreth. 19 The wicked, through the

pride of his countenance, will .

I shall not be moved; for I shall never be in adversity. 22 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under histongue is mischief andvanity. 23 He sitteth in the lurkingplaces of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. 24 He croucheth and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones. 25 He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten; he hideth his face; he will never see it. * 26 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble. 27 Whereforedoth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in

his heart, Thou wilt not require

it. 28 Thou hast seen it; for

thou beholdest mischief and spite to requite it with thy hand : the poor committeth

himself unto thee; thou art the

helper of the fatherless.

29 Break thou the arm of

the wicked and the evil man :

seek out his wickedness till thou

find none.

* 30 The Lord is King for

ever and ever.

31 Lord, thou hast heard the

desire of the humble: thou wilt

prepare their heart, thou wilt

cause thine ear to hear:

32 Tojudge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of

the earth may no more oppress.

33 The way of the just is uprightness: Thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just. 34 The Lord executeth righD

teousness and judgement for all that are oppressed. 35 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things: 36 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us? 37 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of theneedy, now will I arise, saith the Lord : I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.

THE word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 2 What mean ye that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, Thefathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge 2 3. As Ilive, saiththelord God, ye shall not have occasion any moretouse this proverbin Israel. 4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. 5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, 6 Andhathnot oppressedany, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge; hath spoiled none by violence; hath given his bread to the hungry, hath covered the naked with a garment; and hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity; hath executed true judgement between man and man; 7 Hath walkedinmystatutes, and hath kept my judgements to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God. * 8 If he beget a son that is

a robber, ashedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things, 9 Hathoppressed thepoorand needy, hath spoiled by violence; shall he then live he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations, he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him. * 10 Nowlo, if he begeta son that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and consis. dereth, and doeth not such like, 11 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, buthathgiven his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment, 12 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, hath executed my judgements, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. 13 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity. 14 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 15 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 16 All his transgressions that
