it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, How is that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord behold the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

A poor man is better than a liar,
No lie is of the truth,

[Acts, v. 1-10. [Proe. xix. 22. [1 John, ii. 21.

The mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

[Ps. Ixiii. 11. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

[Ps. ci. 7.

Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds: and have put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. [Col. iii. 9-10.

MALICE.

Let us keep the feast not with old leaven; neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. [l Cor. v. 8.

Let all bitterness and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be ye kind one to another; tender hearted; forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. [Eph. iv. 31-32.

MAN.

I the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

[Gen. H. 7.

Man is born unto trouble as the sparks fly upward.

Dust thou art and unto dust shalt thou return.

[Job, v. 7.

. [Gen. iii. 19.

Lord what is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the

son of man, that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. [Heb. ii. 6-8.

MARRIAGE.

From the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a inan leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. [Mark, x. 6-9.

The woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law: so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another [Rom. vii. 2, 3.

man.

The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

[1 Cor. vii. 39. When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business. but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken. [Deut. xxiv. 5.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church; and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word; that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish. So

ought men to love their wives as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church for we are members of his body, of his flesh and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. [Ephes. v. 22-33.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. [Col. iii. 18, 19. Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear: whose adorning, let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands; even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord: whose daughters ye are as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. [1 Pet. iii. 1-7.

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord. [Prov. xviii. 22. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. [1 Tim. ii. 11-13.

Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. [1 Cor. vii. 3, 4.

MEDLING-MEEKNESS.

Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.

[1 Cor. vii. 27.

The Pharisees came unto Jesus, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adul tery and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. [Matth. xix. 3-9.

MEDLING.

He that passeth by and medleth with strife, belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

MEEKNESS.

The meek shall eat and be satisfied.

[Prov. xxvi. 17.

[Ps. xxii. 26.

The meek will He (the Lord) guide in judgment, and the meek will he teach his way.

[Ps. xxv. 9. and shall delight [Ps. xxxvii. 11. the meek of the [Ps. lxxvi. 9.

The meek shall inherit the earth; themselves in the abundance of peace. God arose to judgement to save all earth. The Lord lifteth up the meek, he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

[Ps. cxlvii. 6.

The Lord taketh pleasure in his people, he will beautify the meek with salvation. [Ps. cxlix. 4. The Lord with righteousness shall jndge the poor, and reprove with equity, for the meek of the earth.

(Isai. xi. 4.

MERCY.

55 A meek and quiet spirit is in the sight of God of great price. [1 Pet. iii. 4. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth, blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [Mat. v. 3, 5.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meeknees, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. [Col. iii. 12-17.

Foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. [2 Tim. ii. 23-26.

MERCY.

God will shew mercy unto thousands of them that love him, and keep his commandments. [Exod. xx. 6.

If thou seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice, (for the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers, which he sware unto them.

[Deut. iv. 29-31. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins,
