He first took away my birth-right; and now the fecond time he hath robbed me of my bleffing. He faid then again to his father: Haft thou not referved alfo a bleffing for me? Ifaac anfwered: I have appointed him thy Lord, and all his brethren I have given him for fervants; I have fettled him in plenty of corn and wine; and after this, what more fhall I do for thee, my fon? To whom Efau faid: Father, haft thou but one bleffing? Blefs me alfo, I beseech thee. And he wept with a loud voice; at which Ifaac being moved, faid to him: In the fatness of the earth, and in the dew of heaven from above, fhall thy bleffing be.

AT that time: Jefus fpoke to the Scribes and Pharifees this parable: A certain man had two fons: the younger of them faid to his father: give me the portion of the estate that falleth to me. And he divided his eftate between them. And not many days after, the younger fon, having got together all he had, took a journey into a far country, and there wafted his fubftance in riotous living. And having fpent all, there happened a great famine in that land, and he began to be in want. And he went, and put himself to fervice to a man of that country, who fent him to his farm to feed fwine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that

a Expl. the fwine did eat; and nobody would give them to him. But coming to himself, he faid: How many hired fervants in my father's house have plenty of bread, while I am perishing here with hunger? I will rife and go to my father, and fay to him: Father, I have finned against heaven and before thee: and I am not now worthy to be called thy fon; make me as one of thy hired fervants. He rofe then, and came to his father. And while he was yet afar off, his father faw him, and, moved with compaffion, he ran, and, falling on his neck, kiffed him. And his fon faid to him: Father, I have finned against heaven and before thee, and I am no more worthy to be called thy fon. But the father faid to his fervants: Bring hither quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and give him a ring on his hand, and fhoes on his feet: and bring out the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and be merry: for this my fon was dead, and is alive again: he was loft, and is found. And they began to be merry. Now his elder fon was in the field: and as he came, and drew near to the houfe, he heard mufick and dancing: and calling one of the fervants, he asked him, what it meant ? And he said to him: Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him fafe. And he was angry, and would not go in. His father therefore went out, and began to entreat him. But he answering faid to his father: Behold I have ferved thee fo many years, neither have I at any time tranfgreffed thy command; and yet thou never gaveft me a kid to make merry with my friends but as foon as this thy fon, who hath fpent his eftate with harlots, is come, thou haft killed for him the fatted calf. And he faid to him: Son, thou art always with me, and all I have is thine: but it is fit we fhould make merry and be glad for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; he was loft, and is found.

EPISTLE. Ephef. v. 1, 9.

Rethren: Be followers of God, like his dearly be loved children; and walk in love, even as Chrift loved us, and gave himself for us, an offering and facrifice to God, as a fweet fmelling favour. But let not fornication, and all manner of uncleannefs, or covetoufness, be fo much as named amongst you, as becometh faints, or any obscenity or foolish difcourse, or fcurrility, which is to no purpose; but rather thanksgiving. For know this, and be informed; that no one guilty of fornication, or uncleanness, or covetoufnefs, which is idolatry, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Chrift and of God. Let no one feduce you by vain difcourfes: for it is on account of these things that the wrath of God falleth upon the children of unbelief. Have therefore nothing to do with them. For you yourselves were once darkness; but now you are light in the Lord. Walk therefore like children of the light. Now the fruit of the light confifteth in all fort of goodness, righteousness, and truth.
