Statutes of the M.Z. University.

ADMISSION AD EUNDEM.

I. Any person who has passed the Matriculation Examination of any chartered University, or completed any part of his undergraduate course at any such University, may on the approval of the Chancellor be admitted to Matriculation without examination; and any person so admitted shall have the same standing, with respect to the keeping of terms only, as he would have had if any terms which he has kept in another University had been kept in the University of New Zealand. Applicants under this section must send to the Registrar—(a) Any evidence in their possession of their standing at their former University; (b) A fee of two guineas; (c) A statutory declaration of identity.

II. Any person who shall have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Bachelor of Medicine, Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Laws, Doctor of Laws, Bachelor of Music, Doctor of Music, Bachelor of Science, Doctor of Science, in any of the following Universities-namely, Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow, Aberdeen, St. Andrew's, Edinburgh, Dublin, Durham, London, Queen's University of Ireland, Royal University of Ireland, Victoria University, Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide—may be admitted by the Senate to the same degree in the University of New Zealand. Candidates must, on or before the first day of the meeting of the Senate in any year, lodge with the Registrar as evidence a diploma or Calendar of the University to which they have formerly belonged, or a certificate of the Registrar or other recognised officer of the said University, together with proof of their identity by means of a statutory declaration or a certificate from a member of the Senate.

III. The fee for admission ad eundem, either as a graduate or as an undergraduate, shall be two guineas, and shall be paid by the applicant at the time of making application for such admission.

CONDUCT OF UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS.

I. The examinations shall be held at such places within the Colony as shall be appointed by the Chancellor, and at the times notified in the Calendar for each year.

II. Every candidate for any examination must give notice in writing of his intention to present himself for such examination ; and the notice must be sent so as to be in the hands of the Registrar by the date notified in the Calendar for the giving of such notice. The notice must be accompained by the prescribed fee, except in the case of candidates for the degree of Master of Arts and for Honours in Arts or in Science, for which special provision is made in the Statutes relating to such degree and Honours: Provided that, subject to the same exception, the notice may be received within seven days after the prescribed date if accompained by a special fee, and that the fee in such cases shall be three times the ordinary fee.*

III. The examinations shall be conducted by means of papers to be severally prepared by the Examiners, and three hours shall be allowed for each paper.

IV. Candidates shall write out answers to the questions in the presence of a Supervisor, who shall be appointed by the Chancellor, and in accordance with such details instructions as may be furnished by the Chancellor.

V. The written answers shall be transmitted by the Supervisor to the Registrar, and shall by him be transmitted to the Examiners-that is to say, each answer to the Examiner who set the paper, who shall examine the same and report thereon to the Chancellor.

* Candidates for Junior Scholarships must state the schools at which they have been educated during the previous five years. Candidates for Medical Preliminary, Law Professional, Engineering, Senior or John Tinline Scholarship Examinations, must give specific notice of their desire to come up for these examinations,

VI. The Examiners and Supervisors shall receive such remuneration for their services as the Senate shall in each case determine.

VII. As soon as convenient after the examintion, each Examiner shall return the papers of the candidates to the Registrar, or to the University's Agent in the country where the Examiners may reside.

MATRICULATION.

I. Every student upon entering the University shall be matriculated that is, shall have his name enrolled upon the books of the University. No student shall be matriculated until he has passed the Matriculation Examination. Students who have passed the Preliminary Examination of Medical Students, Junior Scholars, and unsuccessful candidates for Junior Scholarships who, in the opinion of the Chancellor, upon the report of the Examiners, are fit to be matriculated, shall be held to have passed the Matriculation Examination.

II. Every student shall, at Matriculation, make the following declaration::

"I do solemnly promise that I will faithfully obey the Statutes of the University, so far as they apply to me; and I hereby declare that I believe myself to have attained the age of sixteen years."
