PREFACE.

IF the Title of this little Work should remind the reader of the Hora Paulina of Paley, or the Hora Mosaicæ of Faber, the Author must frankly prepare him not to expect in the Hora Psalmodica, the masterly spirit of acute criticism displayed in the former of those works, nor the learning to be found in the latter. His little Tract on the Psalms aspires to no higher character, than that of a popular view of his subject, adapted to the edification of the general reader only.-The same may be said of the Essays preceding it.
