Church and Sabbath School Buildings.

We propose to give, occasionally, a sketch of one or other of the Churches in Glasgow in connection with which special accommodation has been provided for the Sabbath school, adult classes, and the other meetings which are so expressive of the life and usefulness of every Christian congregation. Within recent years decided progress in this direction has been made in many of our large towns; and the fact must be very gratifying to those who can remember the time when the majority of Sabbath classes were taught in hand-loom weavers' and other disused workshops, with their earthen floors, and in ill-ventilated kitchens, and other premises not at all adapted for such a purpose.

Concerned, as we are, in the prosperity of every branch of the Church of Christ, we hope to be able to shew that in every denomination laudable efforts are being made to promote the comfort of teachers and scholars, and thereby the efficiency of the Sabbath school. In a number of instances congregations have been compelled to remove their places of worship by circumstances which, at the same time, put them in possession of means amply sufficient to enable them to erect, elsewhere, buildings that may be described as immensely superior, in every respect, to those formerly occupied. In some cases, however, the wants of the Sabbath school superintendent have not been met, as we think they should have been, either as to the number of separate class-rooms, or the furniture. What would our readers think of a church building where, in addition to a large hall capable of holding 500 adults, there are also as many as ten smaller rooms of various sizes, all available for Sabbath classes, and every one of them on a level with the street, or above it? The plan of such a building lies before us; and, while it may safely be spoken of as one of
