Held at Philadelphia, May the 16th, 1788, and continued by adjournments until the 28th of the same.

Q. 1. WHAT is the chief and highest end of man?

A. Man's chief and highest end is to glorify God, (1) and fully to enjoy him for ever. (2) Q. 2. How doth it appear that there is a God?

A. The very light of nature in man, and the works of God, declare plainly that there is a God; (3) but his word and Spirit only, do suf

(1) Rom. xi. 36. For of him, and through him, and to him are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. 1 Cor. x. 31. Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

(2) Ps. lxxiii. 24, 25, 26. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. My flesh and my heart faileth : but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. John xvii. 22 and 24. The glory which thou gavest me I have given them.-Father, I will that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me.
